Hey Guys,
Hope all is well.
I just got (6) AC Delco Reman Engines still in the crates.
They are all rear wheel drive blocks, however.
This is OK, as I have the 3.4 Starter Jig. I will re-drill the starter holes on the right side of the block before shipping if desired.
It is my undrstanding that this will be the only difference.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
$1,000 each.
Pick up in Tuckerton, NJ 08087 or Shipping by truck freight.

p.s. I have pics, but do not have PIP on this computer.
I will post one up later tonight when I get home.

Are these for 88 or pre 88? They use different balancer and flywheels I think.

Not sure about balancer, I don't think so, but the flywheel is neutrally balanced and the crankshaft is totally different.

The motors are fully dressed with oil pan, timing cover, and valve covers.
The timing cover and oil pan are set up like 87-88 with rubber gasket.
The valve covers can not be used as they are plain stamped steel.
After looking them over, I can say that the blocks are identical to a 3.4 rear wheel drive block.
You can use your original harmonic balancer, and all accessories.
The flywheel from a pre 88 car may or may not interfere.
I would very much suggest using an 88 Flywheel, or even a 3.4 flywheel.
Other than that, all you need to do is the starter bolt relocation, which I can do for you before delivery.
The motors are all clean, wrapped in plastic inside of a GM Crate.
The list price was $1,800 when they were selling these.

So, Short answer:
88 Direct bolt in (with starter mod)
85-87 direct bolt in (maybe flywheel ok, but to be 100% safe use 88 Flywheel and of course starter mod)

We only have three motors left.
I have both 88 and 87 styles.
I have personally installed the last three and all three came out GREAT!
(1 in an 88 GT, and 2 in 87 GTs.)
Three motor swaps in three weeks...
I need a day off LOL

Sorry, I am an idiot.
There is a picture of the motors on my website at www.fieroservice.com and there are build pictures of the three jobs I did so far on Fiero Jons Facebook page.

Do these rear wheel drive engines have the same valves that the Fiero engines have? My understanding is that Fiero engines have larger valves and possibly larger main bearings. I could be wrong.

The valve size depends on where the heads came from- the 2.8 camarobirds had smaller valves it is true. Obviously these are not Fiero engines unless someone sold longitudinal fieros.
Not sure if the truck motors (S-10) had the bigger valves but I would doubt it.

The smaller valve heads were only used in 1982-1983 according to the research I did.
The cranks, main bearing journals and cams changed over the years, but all cast heads are the same past approx 1984.
My motors are from approx 1987-1988.
They should have the bigger valves.
Either way, they run great, have plenty of power and are a great deal.
If you want more power, this is not the way to go anyway.
For $1800 you can get a rebuilt 3.4.
This is an ecomomical way to freshen up the cars.

I only have one new motor left!
All 5 went into fieros with absolute success.
Any takers?

I also have three good used motors in great shape.
One has 61k and the other has 112.
The 61k is from an 86 and the 112 is from an 88. $500 each.
I also have an 84 motor/ 4 speed trans and cradle assy for $600. only 84k on the assy yet 60k on the motor.

Thanks,
I have access to rebuilt 3.4 motors but unfortunately they are not very cheap.
I use "The Engine Shop" in PA.
www.TheEngineShopinc.com
Good people, excellent motors.
