My speedometer is off about 7-8 MPH @ 60 -70 mph. I have 215 60R 15 tires on 15" 88 lace wheels. I need the correct VSS gear for an automatic transmission with 3.33 finals.

"MD9 TH125C Automatics will have the large GREEN 10 tooth drive gear.
The smaller VSS speedo gear will be:
BLUE 30 tooth - tire sizes P185/80R13, P185/75R14, P195/70R14, P215/60R15
WHITE 31 tooth - tire size P215/60R14"

Looks like I need the blue 30 tooth gear. Above quoted is from fierosound's posting in an archived thread 7-14-2008.

I'm junking the auto transmission from my 87 GT (which seems to have the 3.33 gear). If you (or someone else) tells me how to extract the gear, I'll send it to you for the cost of shipping.

My project: 3800 Series III Supercharged + F40 6-speed into an 87 GT. Wish me luck!

On a Fiero - the speedo gear is basically on the rear axle. Therefore it doesn't make a difference what the 'rear end gearing' is. The only difference it overall tire tread diameter (NOT rim diameter)

I figured that out after finding and reading 'fierosounds' post. There are just two gears used in the automatics.

Raccoons,

I was looking at the 88 FSM. It appears that there is a small bolt that holds a square metal retainer tab, that keeps the VSS into the Governor. Remove the bolt and just remove the metal retainer and pull the VSS out.
Let me know if you get it out.

Found this also. Photo looted form Spacecoastfieros.com:
Both the mechanical cable and sensor type speedometer assemblies are held in place by a 1-inch wire clip on the top of the governor cover.

Looks to me if yours has the metal clip, all you need to do is pull up on it until it disengages and withdraw the VSS . The gear should just come off of the VSS

Well, that took all of 5 seconds to extract. And I think $5 will cover shipping.
