I am not a Mera expert but how is it #5 when it is an 88 model year? I thought they made them in 87 too. Also don’t all Mera’s have a 4 digit number code not a single digit?
I think the ad is a bit confusing because he's throwing a lot of 88 and 87 out there.
It looks like it is a 1987 car. Look at the blower tube going to the coil and the exhaust shield on the crossover. No blower existed on '88 model cars and the exhaust shield on the crossover was revised in '88.
If it is for sure an '87 model car than there would be a high possibility that it is #5. Around "88" (that may be where he is getting 88) Fiero GTs in 1987 were converted to MERAs. For 1988, all MERAs were built off of 88 Formulas (since not only was the Formula cheaper but usually had a slightly lower-trim interior.
This is more than likely a 1987 GT converted into a MERA. A VIN from the seller would tell for sure.

There are a few things which I notice. First, the mirror switch looks to be MERA correct. Second, the map pocket area combined with the center console area look to be the same as other MERAs with the converted interiors. Third, the paint code sticker looks very similar to my MERA. I would have to check the paint code number and I don't know if they would be the same as mine is an 88 MERA model. It just may be a MERA but it has seen better days. Great project car though. I think it would be worth grabbing but I am biased...

This appears to be a real 1987 Mera. The 7242 on the tag is the last 4 digits of the VIN. I have records on this Mera. It is Mera #7005. I can't say I have seen others with factory tags like this. Typically the tag would say 7005. The 5th 1987 Mera produced. But Corporate Concepts did what ever they felt like doing when they made them. This one looks like it had front end damage and they bought a front end for a kit cat manufacturer.

yes it is a 87 mera indeed. it looks to have had a rear end battle and a front end battle tho at some time. wouldnt be a bad buy for someone with some time and vision.

What about the "Cars and Concepts" foil tag? Is that for the T-Tops? All Mera's assembled by "Corporate Concepts"
Thanks to Rodney being into Fiero's so long, we have some verifiable documentation on these cars. It's ironic that the Mera ended up being much rarer than the car it was meant to look like.
i think Indy-Resto guy....has a sticker like that in Mera #7006 i got some pics i will find........poor '87 Mera is all busted up. but it is time to add another early one to the Pile. now if we could just find #7001 and #7003. i know where #7005 and #7006 are as well as #7002, eh?? thats in my Garage yes??

The ad clearly states it's an 87. Where the confusion lies, is that the seller wrote, "1987 Pontiac Mera (Fiero Chassis) 88 were made in 1987".
I don't know if they edited the original ad but maybe they should have worded the ad to say #5 of 88 Mera's built in 1987. That would have been less confusing.
he added some pics.....that sticker is weird. but it looks closer to this than not wonder if its a nod to the evolution of the Mera ID sticker?? From Mera #7006 Indy-Resto-Guy
from the Mera In Paradise thread..........Pg 124
it seems they should have used the full 5 digit VIN code....whoops
