My instrument panel lights all went out suddenly and I've narrowed it down to a bad transistor. My contacts are clean, but I get no power through it. Does anybody have a spare I could buy rather than replacing the transistor?

Thanks,

I guess you are talking about the rheostat? $5 to cover shipping and it is yours.

It's possibly just a loose connection where the pins on the transistor plug in to the heatsink assembly.
Before you replace it, remove the transistor from the heat sink. Be careful not to damage the quartz insulator. Do NOT wipe off the white thermal compound.
Clean and then bend the pins just a bit.
Reinstall the transistor back into the heatsink. You can solder the pins if your want to.

My unit is quite clean for how old it is. I was expecting some dirt, dust, grime, or corrosion, but it's clean. Is there a simple way to test the transistor out of the car?
