When I am at a red light or stopped for any reason, my engine will idle ~under 500 rpm. I have stalled a few times because of this and it is getting quite annoying. Anything I can do to fix this?

Auto or manual? A/C on at the time?

I would say to check your EGR and look for vac. leaks. Is the check engine light on?

Don't attempt to adjust the idle screw. The computer controls the idle and adjusting this is a last resort, when everything else has been checked/fixed. Now, if the previous owner adjusted it, then you will have to reset it.

It is an automatic and the A/C currently does not work. I plan on getting new A/C put in though soon.

The check engine light comes on and off often. I went to a mechanic and he said it was my 02 sensor in the exhaust. He told me it was not too big of a deal so I have not bothered to fix it yet.

This is a one owner car in my family so i know that no one has messed with it before. It has been sitting for several years though under snow in Canada, so it has plenty of kinks to work out.

Also change the fuel filter.
You don't need a mechanic to pull the code. You just need a paperclip

Also, yes, fix the 02 sensor, if that is an issue. I would also get a new mechanic as it is easy to fix (especially on a 4 cyl).

I will look into that.

And alright. I should probably start doing more work on my own instead of overpaying someone to do a bad job. I will just need the community here to help me out big time haha.

Welcome to the forum. Good idea doing your own work. For sure you can get alot of help here.

Here is a pic of where the o2 sensor is, it screws into the hole in the exhaust manifold. This is on the side of the engine facing the front of the car.

You might also look at removing the IAC and throttle body, and cleaning off the IAC pintle (the cone-shaped tip) and the IAC passages on the under-side of the throttle body. I have seen them completely caked shut.

You may want to get a throttle body rebuilding kit, and take the throttle body apart and clean everything.

Thank you!

I went ahead and got the ac fixed and replaced the o2 sensor. I have not been having the low idle issues since. Still not 100% sure what was causing the problem, but after fixing the o2 and AC it is all good.
