Comments or Questions About Your Fiero (Page 1/6)

I thought I'd start this post to commemorate an unsolicited comment I received about my Fiero today. When you receive a comment about your Fiero that you want to share with all of us, please post it here and we can enjoy them together.

Today's Comment: Went to lunch with a neighbor today to Hana Sushi, just a few miles from my house. Dennis hasn't been in a Fiero since 1985, when he was dreaming about getting one, so now that my car is finally on the road again, after 4 years in the garage, I insisted on driving it. When we finished lunch and walked back to the car, I noticed the car next to mine had backed into the space so that our driver doors were immediately next to each other. As I walked up the other car's window rolled down and a gorgeous women, who looked like a double for Léa Seydoux, started talking to ME. 'I've been sitting here for a while and everybody that drives by stops and takes a picture of your car!' So we chatted a bit and then went home, amazed that this women had waited to tell me this and that ANYONE was taking notice of my car!

And you didn't offer to take her for a spin?
Full disclosure... I had to look up who the heck Léa Seydoux was. Not bad.

For years (Decades) I have caught hell from people in the east bay over my Fiero ("US -Pile-of-junk-that-catches-fire") but back approx' ten years ago I went to the Pick-&-Pull in Modesto (Central Valley)....Stopped for gas and three different people complimented my car (I thought they were trying to SCAM me!)

At the JY two other guys complimented it (Started looking up for a Meteor to fall out of the sky on me)....

Recently, I have had many more favorable interactions with people over the Fiero- even (Now) in the east bay.

Three things; 1) Not as many people now have access to the Car & Drivel "Hate American cars" biased testing of the Fiero, 2) A lot of people have now seen the (God-awful) Fast & Furyous Nine movie and 3) It is hard to argue with a car that is now 36+ years old and still drivable....

I almost think it would be kind of hilarious to paint a Fiero like a charred piece of meat with pieces of tape (Looking like that was holding it together) just as a joke....

I have a very rotten sense of humor!

I'd like to paint one with one of those faux-"rust" patina paint jobs.... It would be one of those things that a lot of people wouldn't even realize was "wrong" unless they already knew the carbody was made out of plastic.

And I've had the random photo people too a few times. There's a Chipotle restaurant near my workplace and there are always a lot of high school kids there too for lunch. Not one of them knows what the Fiero is but many of them snap a photo.

I was the celebrity when I bought mine new.

Then after all the media fire stories and recalls I was the idiot the bought the Fiero.

Today the good vibes have returned. Many are saying I wanted one, I had one or I would like to get one.

Time has treated the Fiero well. Most know it is far from a perfect car but most were flawed in the 80’s looking back and the Fiero is one of the few survivors.

The car did not change and much of the media was warranted as the car had its flaws from being under funded by GM at a time GM was broke and poorly run.

I have always been one to say we as Fiero owners need to be honest and give the car credit where it deserves and be honest where it came up short. To be honest it was a miracle it ever got built to start with.
To go out and claim what is not just ring of no credibility for anything else we would say.

The truth is we are seeing a return to respectability with the average public. We will always have a critic here or there.

My favorite comment of all time was “I don’t like Fiero’s but li like yours”. Odd statement but I will take it.

If ever a job was made for car wrap, this is it! Park it at a Mall and record some unique, Candid Camera moments. (Of course you would need surplus $$ to fund the car wrap, which ain't cheap.)

It is nice to see that Fieros are coming back into respectability. Will this drive an increase in selling price in the years to come? Should we be hoarding Fieros for the day when they are worth their weight in Gold??

That might have been possible had I been in a Bond, James Bond, frame of mind. Unfortunately, it is hard for me to shed my normal, Rodney Dangerfield persona ...

A few days days ago I was working on my Formula, as reported Here... with the car sitting at the very end of my driveway, and the rear end pointing towards the lane. There are two old Italian men who walk down my lane every day, and as they were walking towards my place, they could hear the sound of the exhaust from the idling 2.8 engine. With swapped in 1.6 rockers, and ported exhaust manifolds, the exhaust tone is quite nice. Also has a very slight lope. The two old Italian men walked up to the back of the car. They stopped, listened for a moment or so, seemed impressed... and then one of them turns to me and asks... "Bigga engine?" I won't lie, it made me smile.

I'm 21 and daily my as of this week all original 84 (waiting on my fuel pump for my 3.4DOHC swap). I also occasionally take my basket case 88GT out for a spin If I feel like walking.

I have had the same 4 repeating reactions up here in La Crosse, WI

Case A) Any age, "I like your car, what the heck is it."

Case B) 40+ year old's, "Oh I remember those! My (insert relative) had one! I can't believe yours still runs!"

Case C) Any age, "I see you got your fire extinguisher handy hur hur hur (I keep it behind the drivers seat against the rear glass, foam padded of course). I hope that's not the one that catches fire is it." (It is.)

Case D) 19-23 year old females stumbling out of one of the many college bars, "Ooooh my goddd is that like an old Porsche, can I like get a picture. . . " (When they ask it is always a Porsche). We tend to get a lot of coasties and they aren't exactly car people. For some reason the old school Pegasus logo on the front always throws them off.

To the best of my knowledge, as well as to the knowledge of 2 sheriffs deputies or state trooper that has pulled me over for "not seeing a front plate" (its in the window) then shooting the breeze about the car for 15 minutes. I am the only known running Fiero in the county. Nearest ones are in the Dells I believe. So it get lots of attention at the local car show circuits.
