It will you will have to turn it just right. Is my experience. That's what i mean by move it. You will have to juggle that cover around a little.

It might make a difference in the orientation of the rockers at either end of the head (whether up or down). Maybe I was just lucky, and the camshaft had rotated to the perfect position, but my valve covers came out and went in with no effort whatsoever. No loosening of the middle plenum bolts, no "juggle" of any sort required.

In my thread that I earlier linked to, there's a bit of info that might be overlooked. It's possible that what some people might've had trouble with is their trunk side valve cover catching on the engine lift thing. I addressed this in the following post. The "engine lift thing" that I mentioned can be seen on the extreme left side of the image below.

Oh, I did a lot of test fits.
Okay, here's what I did. Yes, I listened to what was being suggested ... and I used Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket (I bought my second bottle today after using the first one for 40 years!) to sparingly tack the gasket to the valve covers. I just let the covers sit on a flat surface for a couple hours after sticking the gaskets on there.
First thing I did was bang the engine lift thing (on the trunk side) to the left with a hammer. Just about a quarter inch. I then made a "guide" out of a cereal box to prevent my "practice" valve covers from catching on the underside of the middle intake plenum.
After manipulating the valve covers into position a few times, I realized I didn't need the cardboard guide any longer. I put blobs of black RTV on the four places it was required on the heads... and then it was time to work some magic.
I grabbed the valve covers with the now stuck on gaskets... and slid them both right in without the slightest effort.
They're all buttoned down now. Tomorrow all the rest gets put back together... and perhaps I'll start it!

I have been told it can be a while back but I just want to confirm before I start.
Thanks
Trunk side valve cover. |

just remove the upper and middle intake, it's quick and easy and you have all the room you would ever need to do what ever it is back there that you want. Sure you can with the middle and upper intake in place, it's struggle and you are not saving any time or money, your just making it harder on yourself.[This message has been edited by jelly2m8 (edited 07-16-2022).]

IMHO the middle intake would be fine but it has the fuel rail and regulator and that's a bit of a PITA. The top is easy unless you still have that throttle body warmer hooked up otherwise its a PITA too. Oh and the EGR tube.

Got the cover off but had to loosen the middle intake a bit.
There was just no way on mine to get the cover out. There has to be some slight variances between even years.
I had to take the mount to the right side off too.
I did not have to remove the middle just loosen the bolts enough to move it maybe an 1 /8 inch.
Had one upper plenum bolt snap. It was just not coming out. Will drill and Heli Coil.
Should go together well now apart.

And you were so pleased that you had to post about it twice.
