It is quite remarkable to me that there is anyone around who would still remember the days when a few Fieros were burning-up the road (literally.) When will this insanity end??

Young kids are being reminded of it due to modern automotive youtubers.

Donut Media is a perfect example of this. They are loud and flashy zoomers based out of LA. They have a unique series called "Up to Speed" that give a 5-10 minutes flash history of a ton of different cars. They did a great Fiero video. They were pretty fair about what was causing the Fiero's fires and while they can definitely gloss over some details they usually get it pretty close.

The legacy of Fiero fires I don't think will ever fully be extinguished (hur hur). I firmly believe out little plastic rockets are more susceptible to total loss fires then your conventional steel bodied car. Enthusiasts now know what preventative measures must be taken to either fight a fire when it occurs or stop it from happening outright. But to the general public the Fiero will always be the flaming sports car just as much as the mustang will always be remembered as the secretaries car. Even though it has long since left its roots behind. . .

Was approaching an intersection the other day, saw a jogger coming from the left and I waved him to keep goin' past. he jogged a little closer, said "Thanks... Nice Fiero!" he was early 20's I'm surprised he knew what it was.

I went to our massage therapist, last week. (She's actually more my wife's massage therapist, but my wife couldn't make it, so I took her appointment, as I've done in the past. She's also a friend of several other of our friends. Quite cool.)
Anyway, we were talking about "summer" and my retirement, and other such small talk, and I mentioned that I liked to play with Pontiac Fieros.
She told me that her first car, ever, was a Fiero. I told her I'd drive one of mine, when I came back. (I almost drove my GT, that day, but I had just gotten my G6 fixed, so...)

A few days days ago I was working on my Formula, as reported Here... with the car sitting at the very end of my driveway, and the rear end pointing towards the lane. There are two old Italian men who walk down my lane every day, and as they were walking towards my place, they could hear the sound of the exhaust from the idling 2.8 engine. With swapped in 1.6 rockers, and ported exhaust manifolds, the exhaust tone is quite nice. Also has a very slight lope. The two old Italian men walked up to the back of the car. They stopped, listened for a moment or so, seemed impressed... and then one of them turns to me and asks... "Bigga engine?" I won't lie, it made me smile.

I drive my Fiero daily, but only short trips like bringing my sun to school (and picking him up again) or to the grocery store. Every single day - without exception - people compliment me on my car, or give me a thumbs up, or take pictures of it. Every single day. Without exception. People don't know what car it is so they sure as heck have never heard of one catching fire. They just think it's an incredibly cool car.

And it's not only when I'm driving the car. I often look out my window and see people standing next to it while they have others take a picture of them with the car. It gets more attention than any Porsche, BMW or Mercedes. And to think my Fiero isn't in a particularly great shape. 😄

Our cars are "Hot"......That's what we need to tell people who ask about the fire problem.....

And having read a bunch of European and Australian road tests, it is interesting to note that most (Not all) of those tests were more positive than the US mag tests....

I love the little rumble of the 6 cylinder. Although, when I took my friend for a ride I noticed that it was a little hard to hear him over the exhaust notes. Perhaps this is because I removed that horrible insulation blanket.

That is pretty incredible! Consider this a request to install web cams in your car that you stream live to Pennock's Fiero Forum. Then we can all watch the people watching your car and share in the experience, since I'd bet this doesn't happen anywhere else.
