Weather Channel says 22%, 32%, and 20% Thursday, Friday and Saturday, respectively for Franklin, NC. I think we will be OK. The storm track is forecast to go off to the West of The Dragon.

RFTH 29 IS BEING POSTPONED

The forecast is rapidly changing for the area and in consideration of everyone's safety and enjoyment, we are postponing the event until the 18th, 19, and 20th of October. New hotel arrangements will be set up for us. Please call the hotel and cancel your reservations for September 27-29.

I wasn't able to make this coming weekend, but I might be able to make the one in October as long as the temps don't get too cold. It would be about a 9.5 hour drive (excluding fuel stops) each way.

Canceled mine this morning (25th) was reminded that if you have a reservation you need to cancel TODAY to avoid being charged. They are stating weather as the reason. I had no problems.

The Dragon is just getting too crowded.

Time to get into the toads in southern Ohio, East KY and much of WV.

There are roads in WV that are as challenging and no one around that can be run.

The road from I79 at Wallback to Clay to Ivydale to Duck is a blast. One curve is banked as much as the Charlotte speedway.

You can really haul through the mountains and along a river. Some steep grades too. Just don’t go over sone edges as they only bring up the bodies not the cars.

We had only been using The Dragon every three years, partially due to crowding and so as not to diminish the novelty of it. They have done some improvements, I am told. Repaved the entire stretch. Added and paved turnouts.

I've been utilizing the Western area of North Carolina, north of Asheville. Really good roads, and the bicycle and motorcycle traffic isn't bad. There are some roads I know of that it seems the motorcycles don't know of, or just doesn't appeal to them.

Your suggestion sounds appealing. It would take someone locally to do the layout and set up restaurants and hotel accommodations. For the Georgia Fieros group to travel to those areas would require many of us to need time off from work, and several days to do scouting.

I've heard of The Head of The Dragon in Virginia or West Virginia, but it's only a very short road with nothing else of real interest in the area. Not enough to fill a whole day of driving the twisties. I have done a cursory look at the Hwy 52 area but didn't look at other roads that would bring us back to a host hotel.

Even though the weather cleared in the area of our intended Run For The Hills, in the end, it was a good decision to postpone the event. I have been trying to reach our evening dinner restaurant since Thursday.

Graff's Tavern is only about one block from the river that passes through Franklin. I fear that they have suffered damage. NCDOT has warned that all roads in Western North Carolina should be considered closed.

I will try to either do a scouting run before the rescheduled date or obtain road information from some of the locals before the rescheduled date. I would welcome anyone to come along on that trip. Maybe the weekend of October 5.

Graffs Tavern phone is out of service.
Hwy 129 into Robbinsville is closed.
The Skyway is open.
The Dragon has lots of problems. Flagged traffic control.
US 441 between Cherokee and Gatlinburg is closed.
