I haven't really driven a Fiero for something like 20 years, except for an occasional drive with the one that my daughter has now. But it was my primary car from early 1996 to 2000... so only 4 years, but I got constant compliments (and that was 23 years ago). Everyone that saw it wanted to know what it was. It's weird because even though the newest Fiero was only 8 years old in 1996, it's like no one had ever seen or heard of them before down in Miami. I was always getting compliments. It could be that most people there are from another country (where they didn't have Fieros). Only once or twice did I ever have anyone even mention fires in Fieros. It seemed like it was also done in a way that they were genuinely concerned for my well being... haha.
But most people thought it was really cool. A lot of people who I talk to now, especially since the 80s are really popular again, think it's a very cool car... and possibly why the values have gone up so much. Even a ratty Fiero sells for $4,500 now...

I sometimes state to people (In a joking manner) "My Fiero is 38 years old- and it only caught fire four hundred and ninety five times!"
Of course, now (With Lupus destroying my body) I get out of the car at the store and tell people "I don't remember the damn car being so low when I bought it 38 years ago!"

It's kinda rare for NYers to speak to each other, so ANY even slightly-positive interaction is like a conversation between two unicorns...
Me (getting gas this morning).
Guy at the other side of the pump: Huh, what years were they made? me: 84-88. Him: oh yeah, they only had them out there a few years... me: this one's an 86. him: nice!

That's pretty cheeky of someone to say to a Fiero owner. Yikes.

A nice moment. Did the NYer keep-to-themselves way of life change any as a result of the Covid19 lock downs?? The last time I was there, which was in NYC I mean, was a year after 9/11 and somehow it seemed welcoming and friendly.

It’s hard to count the number of times after parking the car someone will come over for a look. Then the general comment is, “I did not know that GM had brought back PONTIAC” they then add, “This one looks great”. Fun is the look I get when I tell them “No sorry this is a 1986”. Best one was the one gentleman who still would not believe this and I had to show him the registration to prove the age…

No one talks about the stuff they used to. family, entertainment, etc.
One weird aftereffect is there are a noticeable number of people who are still wearing masks (the non-N95 type) and many of them wear it under their nose. There is no mask requirement, but they wear it anyone, with their nose sticking out.
*shrugs*

Used to get a ton of attention in Worcester MA back in 2010-2014, people would offer to buy it all the time, never got negative feedback from a stranger.

I met the fire guy at WalMart a couple months ago. He was really excited to tell me all about it. He knew a guy who worked at GM, so I'm sure he was an expert. Do you know why they stopped making these cars? Because they catch fire! They had a leak and oil would get on the engine! Yeah, engine.
It was funny how fired up he was, he seemed to seriously think I'd never heard this stuff before. His enthusiasm carried through the time it took to walk to the store so I didn't say much, and wasn't in the mood anyway. I didn't want to interrupt the guy who drives an $80K Rivian and knows more about my 1980s GM than I do.[This message has been edited by armos (edited 05-25-2023).]
