Performance Sound System SUBWOOFER Issue? (Page 1/1)

Looking for any help. I am a good DIY, but not a car audio guy.
I have a '88 GT with the Performance Sound System - brand NEW Subwoofer speaker is energizing... just "popping" and "farting" when the radio head is powered on - even at low or NO Volume whatsoever.
Any thoughts or help - things to check?
I have replaced EVERTHING - NEW AC/Delco head unit - NEW front and rear speakers and a NEW subwoofer - all new speaker components all from Rodney Dickman's site.
Even found and purchased a tested replacement Factory AMP for the GM/Pontiac "Performance Sound" system. Even the NEW replacement AMP did NOT resolve this issue with the subwoofer speaker.
Currently have the subwoofer unplugged and playing the replacement radio/CD head unit through the 4 NEW speakers, but would sure like the SUBWOOFER to work as well.
NEW to the Forum and how this works, so hoping I can get some direction/thoughts on things that I can look into to resolve this issue. Again all piece of the audio system are all NEW replacements - radio head, all 5 speakers and the small subwoofer AMP. Thanks in advance folks - appreciate your knowledge and experience.

Do a search for subwoofer relay. Basically new head units cannot supply enough power to the stock sub amp. Adding a relay to to trigger a 12v power source may help your issue since you have tried everything else.

Hi
What do you mean by a new AC Delco head unit? New as in different to this car but still an original Fiero head unit or a newer Delco deck from like 1994 up?

This is a low voltage issue going to the amp. You need to put a relay on the pink wires in your harness or you can do it the cheap way and jump the wires to the accessory turn on. both will work.
