Cuppla questions for y'all. There is a Series 3 3800 at the local scrap yard. How can i tell for sure (visually) that the blower is from a series 3? Will a series 3 blower fit on a series 2 lower intake manifold? Do they use the same throttlebody??? Thanks jon------------------ Astronomy says we will find a coded signal from outer space. Then we'll KNOW that life exists there, for coded signals aren't by chance.
Biology says there are coded genetic signals in every cell, but we KNOW that no intelligence created life.
I'm the original owner of a white ' 84 2M4 purchased Dec 10, 1983 from Pontiac. Always garaged, no rust, 3800SC, 4-wheel drifts are fun!

The later superchargers are referred to as generation V or Series 5. The earlier post 95 superchargers are series 3. They are not directly interchangeable. The series V has a bolt dead center near the supercharger snout. The other easy way to tell is if the car is 95-03 model year it should have the Gen 3 supercharger. If the application is 04-07 Pontiac Grand Prix it should have the later Gen V unit but if the vehicle was a Buick or Chevrolet it has the Gen 3 unit on all years. Both units have an identical displacement but the Gen V units make more horsepower as they were designed to run cooler and run more efficiently. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. The latter made more torque and HP. It also had different programing that permitted it to be a Premium recommended vs Premium required.
The engine would vary about 25 HP based on what fuel you ran. Also it employed much more engine management that would pull the power at the shift points to let the transmission live.
Also care in programers is needed as some early programmers had too much timing and was breaking pistons.
The Series three 3800 SC engine in the 04 and later just was a better set up but they were much fewer in number. Most were limited to the GP as Chevy and Buick never got this engine.
I had one in a GTP Comp G 2004. It was much better than my 1997 SSEI 3800 SC series 2.

One tip that I can pass on is if you go with the 3.4" pulley on the Gen V supercharger add an intercooler. A while ago I tried getting by without one and even by pulling some timing out of the program, I could not eliminate the KR's.Added the short stack and now all is fine. Engine runs like a beast. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. i went and pulled the blower off a 2006 Grand Prix. My friend, who the blower is for, said it would work if i also pulled the lower intake manifold, which i did as well as the purge valve which is different also.
