Lets say you have a piece of rubber sittin' there. That rubber is "ok" but its OLD. Is there something you can rub on it to keep it nice and rubbery?

Like something to put on the sunroof seal, door seal, etc...

I and some others use Castor Oil. For the sunroof, it must be opened regularly to prevent sticking. Doors naturally get opened, so they usually aren't an issue. There are also some commercial products. Maybe Maguiars products has something.

The recommended product that replenishes what the rubber has lost over the years (why its drying out which leads to cracking) is silicone, and it isn't detrimental in the long term like many of the advertised products out there that contain petroleum. I prefer using a clear thick gel type silicone over the liquids because its easier to apply.

There is a German product that has been recommended for maintaining rubber seals. I have used it for several years but do not remember the name at this moment. I will check my parts area later today and provide the name. It is likely Gummi Pflege but if it is different I will correct the posting.

Meguiars and Mothers make stuff for plastic and rubber. I'd check that out.

I too have always heard spray it down with silicone. I read some great things about SIL Glyde Silicone. I bought a tube and its.... sure messy. on like door gaskets. they sure seem a bit more happy but idk if its worth the mess.. maybe i used too much. however the SIL Glyde has like 1001 uses so there is that.

Light coat of silicone is generally what is recommended for seals. And I mean a light coating.

For window seals and other seals generally 303 protectant. It is the best to test rubber with out many greasy side effects. It is what many in the aerospace community recommends as well aftermarket mfgs for bed covers.
