Fiero did well at Pontiac Nationals (Page 1/2)
hyperv6 AUG 02, 06:52 PM
Just wanted to post the Pontiac National at Norwalk Ohio the largest Pontiac show in the world was good for the Fieros.

A large number of Fiero placed and won in a number of classes and George Johnson won the Ames top 5 award with his 1985 Fiero GT.

George was up against some really tough competition including a trailered car that looked like it came off a full restoration.

If you have not seen George’s car it is great example of a 85 GT. It was a well earned award.

Congrats George!

I am not sure why the Fiero people ignore the Norwalk show. It is one of the finest shows in the country with over 600 + race cars and 600+ Show cars. They have always been good to the Fieros and hpjudge us fairly on clean and detailed.

I might add all the Pontiac owners treat us very well and we are well respected.

Sad so many are not coming to this event. Beside Ames performance not only serves a free breakfast and dinner but also two tickets for free pound of ice cream. They even have a drawing we’re the refund your entry for about 20 of the show cars.

Didn't know about it. I only live 30 minutes from Norwalk. Hopefully I remember about it next year.

I would love to make it next year.

Didn't hear about it soon enough this year....life gets in the way of so many things one would "like" to do....that's the reason I'll give myself for the last 20 years or so....

Did make it there one year, it's been so long, I just don't recall the exact year it was. But I drove up from Marietta, and a buddy drove down from Elyria, and we met there and had a great time. Whatever year it was, Kameo Kid had his Fiero there, and it was a gorgeous car, maybe a few of you "old timers" remember Kelly (?) I made a set of ribbed IMSA panels for him in black gel coat, and his was the first Fiero to get a set of my 5" flared bottom "raked" wing stands. His car had the rear window "vents" on it, and was fairly "distinctive"...and as I said, quite impressive to see in pics or in person. There were quite a few other nice Fieros there too that year.

That place has special memories for me, as that was the strip I used to run my '57 Chevy (J-stock class) back "in the day"...around '68-'69 when I still lived in northern OH. Full bodied car with a 283 punched to 288 with many internal mods...fender well exit headers, 5:13 third member, and a Muncie "crash box". Turned 12's at 128mph. Also the place where the buddy that drove down from Elyria ran his '39 Ford with a built 327.

We went there when there was no fence around it...basically just a field with a couple bleachers, a concession stand and a half mile of two lane blacktop....they did have a christmas tree...staging lanes and cleanup/wrecker crew. Ahhhhh.....the "good ole' days"!LOL

But would love to arrange to go next year, and see if my buddy from Elyria would also be up for it. Last time, he drove down in his '59 TR3 which he rebuilt from the ground up and still has! Very nice ride that!

If you get the info, please post it as early as possible next year...would love to put this venture on my calendar for 2022!

HAGO!

Let's not forget the "sold out" swap meet with 400 vendor spaces filled with strictly Pontiac parts.

There is no other Pontiac event in this country that compares.

30 minutes away?!?!

It's only been going on for 30 YEARS

This was my 20th year. Missed 3 for vacations a couple due to rain and work.

We used to get near 30 Fieros back when the Cleveland club was together. This year there may have been ten Fieros in about 4 classes.

The swap meet is about 3 rows of parts 1/4 mile long. Some years not much a fiero stuff other years a ton. I found a DOHC super duty head and valve cover there one year.

As one of the larger NOS Pontiac parts suppliers around I brought about $10,000.00 worth of NOS Fiero parts alone. Not one person asked.

My trailer is only so big. It's hard bringing parts that no one asks about versus parts that don't last past the first day. Maybe next year I'll only bring $2500.00 - $4000.00 worth of Fiero parts if there is no interest.

Well many years there are 5 Fieros and most are like mine that do not need parts? Or the parts we need or want are very hard to find.

If more Fieros show up and in varied condition you may see more sales. This year there were more Fieros in need than in the past.

To be honest most people anymore are buying on the web and the swap meets are often just the people cleaning out the garage anymore.

Anymore looking for parts is like panning for gold. You have to process a lot of stone to find a cool part at times.

Also we prices and lack of junk yards is making used parts more expensive.

Had some friends in our local Pontiac club travel to that show . Haven't gotten to talk with them about how they liked it. sounds amazing though.

I’m planning to do some Fiero restorations in the near future. We should keep in touch. PM sent.
