Headlight Bulb Replacement (Page 1/1)
thejinx13 AUG 07, 03:06 PM
Good afternoon.

I live out in a forested area and we have a ton of deer. I'm looking for a replacement bulb that would fit the factory wiring but give me some more power to highlight the heat seeking deer. Can anyone recommend a bulb that is brighter than the factory style?

Thanks so much.

I upgraded to the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs. A little whiter than the standard, but not like those blinding bright white bulbs that are so popular today.

Some headlight info in these threads.

I have Hellas with 60/55 H4 bulbs and they are much brighter and have a better beam pattern than the stock sealed beams.

Silver Star and other 60/50w bulbs are legal and brighter but don't last long if you drive at night often. Osram and others have been sued Because of that and other problems w/ ad's and packaging.
It basically put Silver Star etc 9003 and related bulbs for "aero HL" in H6054.
Problem eats more power and cause problems to many cars not only Fiero w/ 30+ year old wiring.

Bulbs you have now can have same problems w/ old wiring making them "dim."
If you have "yellow looking" HL is either Not an H series bulb, Is a Halogen but is very old and near dying or have wiring problems.
At minimum you need to check the grounds in front, switches and plugs.

See my Cave, Headlights

Some old cars still have factory or otherwise HL bulbs and Are Not Halogen like H6054 and other PNs start w/ H.
Many in 70's and 80's had 6052 or 6053 and isn't a Halogen and still available in many places...
Example: https://www.rockauto.com
I found a Guide 6052 in my parts car. Guide was 1 of GM parts divisions. I think not OE because installed w/ wrong screws.
All Halogen have the small glass bulb inside them. Standard Incandescent does not and can see metal parts etc.

I lived in "Deer Country" and even now still get Deer near the city...
Brighter lights doesn't help much or at all. Only thing helps "Knowing your Enemy."
Example: See 1 deer, expect many other near by and Slow Down.

Fog and Driving lights often won't help because how they are make. Maybe helps If they are On the road. Plus Both have rules to install and use them.
Highlights: If legal in the area, Often Both are allowed only w/ Low Beam HL On. Even then Some places only allow Fog lights in bad weather.

Hella ECE sets and related are Not Legal in the US.

TruckLite Hella and others does/had Dot Legal "Back loaded Bulbs" sets for US buyers. Most use 9003 bulbs same at many "Aero HL" most cars have now.
Trucklite 27009 for Fiero. Some here have this.

Often they have same problems as Silver Star and other bright H6054.

The silverstars I have are on the lower scale of white. Just slightly brighter than the Halogen bulbs, but white light. I think the biggest difference is the color.

Evolution is you change everything out to put in hid bulbs in then you change everything again to go LED.
