Another "finally got a fiero" post (Page 1/2)

After trying (failing) to be patient while searching, I scooped up a blue 87 GT. Rust free underbody, which here in Michigan was a surprise.

Previous owner put in an aftermarket sound system and redid the carpet to the best of his ability, so when I get around to the interior, I am thinking of circumventing trying to fix his mistakes by going for a more stripped down track-inspired look.

First on the docket is rear brakes, the RR rotor is lipped ~3mm and the piston is stuck (overextended), caliper rebuild here I come!

Excited to join the melee here

Hey Spooky....
Good luck with it, I'm sure you'll scratch your head at times like the rest of us.
Looks like the previous owner swapped a rear wheel onto the front. The rears have a larger lip in front of the "basket" than the fronts do because the rim is a bit wider. I'd check to be sure all 4 are the same or you don't have 3 of one size and 1 of the other. Others on here may be able to tell you if there are any negative impacts of having the wider wheels on the front.

Have fun..........

Rich

Welcome to the madness! One thing I want to emphasize is positioning of jack-stands...The Fiero is a bit unique and you need to be careful to locate the stands on good structure; The rocker panels are not structural, so look at diagrams and be careful...I shake the car before crawling underneath to make sure it is solidly supported.

I appreciate the advice! While I do some minor maintenance on my daily, this is my first real project car so I'm trying to be overcautious.

Pre 88 GTs had same wheels on all 4 corners. Should be 15x7 30 mm offset.

Welcome to the forum Spooky.

The aftermarket speakers were mounted in a frame that was not actually mounted to the car, so I just picked em up and pulled em out. Clearer (dog free) pictures of the interior: Dash is in decent condition, some warping, gages are all visibly fine but some are funky-monkey in terms of function, will dig into later. The carpet is all "new" but unsecured so it should be easy removal. The seat covers are not my style, will discover the condition of the seats that lie underneath soon. Ebrake handle is all sorts of bedraggled, looks like one of the previous owners forgot to put it down before getting out of the car.

The PRNDL cover plate is there, but there's no trim around it, and some of the lights are out. The window switches were cracked, but the previous owner had some new ones that he was planning to swap in.
Simple as.

EDIT: he also added a ciggy lighter/USB plugs with those ugly blue crimps and mismatched wire gages, I suspect there will be electrical problems with the vehicle in my future.
