First big day of working on the 86 SE (Page 1/2)
dayv27 SEP 18, 12:08 AM
So after 3 weeks of ownership and about 150 miles, I have a weekend off with no plans. Well, no plans outside of the garage. Tomorrow will be the first big day working on the car. I have planned:
New door wipes on both doors.
Upper hinge pin and bushings on drivers door
new felt window guides on both doors (during wipe install)
Headlight motor rebuild
Flip screws install on deck vent plates
Check codes on reader to make sure my SES light is still just a 32 code.
And screw you FED EX for losing my new Delco AM/FM Cassette player that was supposed to be on this weekend's to do list!!!

And if I get most of that done, a cruise through town to take the Mrs. out for coffee Sunday morning.

Any tips, tricks would be appreciated.
I have the Dickman headlight rebuild kit, the Dickman window wipe tool, and Fiero store pins and bushings

Upper hinge pin might be difficult to do by yourself. You have to press in the new bushings and if I remember correctly, compress the door spring. Everything else on the list is just a little time consuming.

Two things...

First, you don't need a code reader to access the ECM Diagnostics (Trouble) Codes. Below is what I use, with a minor modification.

And second, 32 is not the code you should be hoping for.

I have the same code reader!
Egr valve is on my to-do list. Just not this weekend.

Just for the record, changing dew wipes suck.

Got the air cleaner lid cleaned up and re-painted, got the correct flip screws put into the vents on the deck on both sides, cleaned some who knows what out of the engine bay and then spent the day tackling dew wipes. As many videos as I watched and with Rodney's wipe tool, I still look like I got in a fight with a rabid cat, and spent wayyyyy to many hours in the garage on what should have been a simple project.

I did finally find some rust on the car, the metal plates that the arm rests screw into were surprisingly rusty. A wire brush and some rust inhibitor/encapsulator/sealer took care of that.

Tomorrow I'll attempt the headlight motor rebuild.

"Own a fiero they say.....It'll be fun they say....."

Kinda remainds me of the sentiment expressed by John McClane as he confronts Hans Gruber & his henchmen (Die Hard)

True, dew wipes are one of the bigger PIA jobs to do on a Fiero....but there are others!

That's on the to-do list, but much farther down.

That doesn’t look like it’s supposed to
