Finally broke down and got one for myself! (Page 1/2)
Forrest SEP 20, 06:44 PM
I'll add more later with an edit but need to get these photos uploaded before I go to work.
She has several missing bits and bobs...including cruise control, brakes are hosed, she was smoked in for most of her life, burns here and there. Some melted plastic....but MAN does she run smooth....4 speed manual...OH and she has the subwoofer!
Still a little shocked my wife was on board so....here we GOOOOOOO!
You guys gotta see this PVC intake...
Story goes...car set up for a decade...was donated to an automotive school...purchased from said school by the folks I got it from. They drove it...rear passenger side caliper locked up and scared the crap outta the guy...it sat there till I came and got it. So they maybe owned it for a month?
Yes she is a project....that was the point. She has some cancer underneath but the frame looks solid...just the normal stuff. Battery tray, radiator housing....etc..... She woulda sat there till there was nothing to save for sure, and that would have been a shame given how nice she runs. Oh yeah only 40K miles...yes. I can see what she will be though....Blue. It will be a wrap just like my sons Fiero.

Nice! Go over all the important parts with a fine toothed comb and a torque wrench, no telling what the automotive students touched.

Also looks like the car never had the recall done? It's not a super-low VIN car donated to the school by GM is it?

Good luck with the car. Exterior looks solid . I see that the headlight motor fix or replacement is in order . If you need to replace interior parts they are still available from one of many parts dealers. You will enjoy many hours of fixing/restoring your 34 year old vehicle. Changing all fluids, filters and replacing hoses, lines, belts and doing a full tune up should be a priority. Welcome to the club.

Yep this is my second one. First was my sons car :-)
The car honestly runs perfect....but I know how these girls go so she runs perfect...for now.
Previous owner already dropped the tank so fuel pump is brand new and the sender appears to work most of the time.

Congrats!

Thanks! Man I just took her out for a quick spin.....are the manuals THAT much faster than the autos? I was pretty surprised....
Put some cooling juice in her....she is ice cold. Oh and after the spin she warmed up and a fan to cool the coil it looks like came on so guess that works.
Speedo does NOT work.....good thing they are not required in Texas to pass inspection.
Here is a warm start...listen to that intake...

Here is the uh...PVC intake?

I am gonna have to take this apart and see whats what....I am not cool with it having no filter at all if that is the case.

I used to make videos for youtube. Had 10k subs but dropped the channel for a lot of reasons...so this is NOT good camera work. Just a quick vid to show you guys. Better content coming...especially the wrap.

Just a suggestion. Take off the driver side wheel liner and look in there to see if you have an air filter. If you do not have one, add one as it is cheap engine protection.
As for the speedometer; check out the sender unit, the wiring and connector on the transmission. I suspect that the problem is there.
I would say that the manuals provide more peppy performance than the autos but it really depends on the FDR. Fieros are fun cars to drive and that is why we own them. It can also be said that they are fun to work on, sometimes!

Hope there's an air filter in there, but judging by the sound I doubt it. Cluster needs to come apart anyway to fix that pegging temp gauge.

Went to visit my boy at school (Bama) so have not had a chance to wrench on her much. I did as you suggested though and checked the VSS on the tranny. It and the wiring look fine. No corrosion or anything. For good measure I took a wire brush to the connectors and put everything back together. Still no dice though.
As luck would have it 2 86s showed up at the junk yard. I was not able to get to them before the spoilers and trunks were not 100% destroyed by other scavengers but I did snag a speedo, tach, matching rim, and subwoofer housing for my sons 88.
The car I took the speedo from had over 300,000 miles on it....amazing

You should've grabbed an air filter assembly (canister, brackets, etc) for your Fiero!

Franklin Delano Roosevelt? Yes, I'm old.

Dennis, I suspect you weren't referring to a former US president... but I have no idea what else FDR stands for.
