Managed to get the ol nasty firewall insulation out in one piece. Made a pattern, now going to cut out the new one.
Spadesluck OCT 30, 01:38 PM
What you using to replace it with?
PhatMax OCT 30, 02:26 PM
A product from ThermoTec. It has foil on both sides and a felt material in between. #14125 is the part number.

Paul McKibben use to sell an exact pattern for the firewall insulation but since he retired the pattern is no longer available.

If it works out as good as I hope, I’d be willing to share said pattern. I’m hoping the flaps will fit behind the small brackets.

I have a firewall template pattern that I am willing to loan to anyone in need. All that I ask is that you return the template on you have completed using it.

Several individuals have used in the past including some from up North like Canada.

I believe I used that template from you.

Hey Max!

I love ThermoTec's stuff. I emailed them last year asking what I should use in the engine compartment, citing concerns with the felt/middle material retaining moisture and forming mildew or mold. They replied back with this:

"I would recommend using our Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier part# 13590 for your application. It will not retain moisture and will do the best job of reflecting heat. If you would prefer something without adhesive then I would use our Aluminized Heat Barrier part #14001. "

I thought about that….. figured this car prob won’t see much if any in-climate weather once done. Also the original material was pretty nasty. The material I’m putting in is definitely thinner than the original an am planning on sealing as much of the edges as I can.
