So I have an 84 Fiero SE, and the temperature gauge motor works, it always moves when I go to start it, but it's always reading as if the engine is overheating (even though it's not.) Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks.

The thermostat needs to be changed and you have a choice of temperatures 150 vs 180 degree etc when the fan kicks on unless you over ride this i make mine always run and use a commodore fan much more air. The thermostat is held in by 2 bolts and you may need a gasket if you destroy old one usually comes with the thermostat.

If the thermostat and radiator fan is working properly etc. it sounds like the Coolant Temp. Sender or the gauge itself is bad. It's also possible the previous owner messed something up in the wiring.
