88 Notchie with Duke/Auto in Johnson, RI Pick & Pull (Page 1/1)

I went today and pulled some stuff I need for my swap. I grabbed the throttle cable, ecm tray, fuse block, c203, junction block, and c500 with extra cable and bracket. I also grabbed the skeleton and the dot matrix radio surround since they were both in good shape.

The front suspension, rear cradle, rear suspension, front hubs, and all 4 calipers are still there. Not sure of the condition of the cradle.

The body and interior parts are gone/trashed.

The guy behind the counter said it would be about 525 for all the front and rear suspension with all brake hardware including front hubs. He also said that the front hubs/bearing assemblies would be ~49 each if bought separately.

I almost grabbed the calipers just so they wouldn't be scrapped, but the drivers rear tire has a rounded/frozen lug nut, so I left them all since I couldn't get all four. I think it will take a lot of effort to get the wheel off in the yard... (Could probably drill out the lug, but I only had some small drill bits to remove bracket spot welds....)

These are prices at a wrecking yard? I'd tell the guy to keep the freakin' thing.

Yes, those prices are exorbitant. Who else but a Fiero owner would have interest? The wrecking yard probably bought the car for scrap value maybe $100 and is just trying to squeeze the blood out of someone who has interest. I'd offer him maybe $200 and that's generous. If he would not accept I'd just walk away.

Agreed. :-)

But the price always depends on who's at the counter when you ask...

The calipers would have been worth it for 20 each, but not worth the effort to me to remove the tire since I have an 84 and can't use them.

Not necessarily. I never bother with those ripoff joints any longer. To avoid that type of crap, I only go where prices are posted up front... such as at all Pick-n-Pull locations.

I feel sorry for the newbs who go to one of those ripoff wrecking yards and don't ask for a price until after they've spent a lot of time removing whatever it is they wanted. Unless those people have the backbone to just leave the parts on the counter, they're at the mercy of the guy setting the price... and he knows it.

You're kind of making my point, since it was a Pick-n-Pull... The guy at the counter used the price list to come up with that amount.

The doofus behind the counter can say whatever he wants, but where does it indicate in their own price list that they can charge $49 apiece for a hub? The rest of his "prices" are probably just as inflated.

If I was buying parts there, I'd be pricing the items myself... using their price list. If the counter guy wanted to argue the point, it might then be appropriate to get the manager involved.
