Driving my Fiero (Page 1/1)
SKJSS FEB 02, 04:38 PM
I had to share this with the group here. I just bought an '86 GT 4spd a few months ago for cheap. It's definitely a "driver", not a show car by any stretch. I posted a few days ago about the broken spark plug, which has been resolved. The car runs and drives great...fingers crossed.

I'm just about to turn 50 years old, so I was right in that sweet spot of being a teenager when these things were new. My best friend in high school had an '84 2M4 and my first autox instructor had an '88 GT, so they have good memories for me. Many years ago, I really got into the AW11 MR2 and the SW20. I had several of them and loved 'em. It's probably been nearly 20 years since I last had one though. I've been fortunate enough in my life to own a ton of really awesome cars. Not interested in bragging, but the point is that I've had some higher dollar cars. Now that I have this Fiero, I find myself wanting to drive it over and over and over. My daily driver is a BMW 128i 6spd. I'm not going to lie and say I necessarily like it "better" than the 128 because that's an absolute joy to drive. But the Fiero just strikes all the right chords for me. The feel, the sound, the 80's retro vibe. I knew I'd like the car, but didn't think I'd enjoy driving it as much as some of my other really cool cars. This thing is quickly going to work its' way into nearly daily driver status for me!! Just gotta get the stock seats reupholstered. Right now they are out of the car and there are crappy Cavalier seats in it. I hate them. Going to a shop to have them return the OEM seats to their former glory.

Happy motoring!!

Save yourself a bunch of money and do it yourself. See Mr. Mikes upholstery at http://www.mrmikes.com/. Great quality and good results. Four hours of your time will get you a great outcome.

Same! (its my 3rd GT in 25 years and I like it better than my previous 87/88 GT's)

Same! (when I was in vo-tech school we had to learn everything about the Fiero and I didn't like it at the time, lol)

Same! (not bragging either, I've also been blessed to own 2 dozen nice old cars since 1984, and the Fiero is one of my favorites)

Happy motoring indeed
