What ever happened to Whodeanie (Page 1/2)

Does anyone know what ever happened to Whodeanie? He had a shop in Atlanta, GA. Not sure if anyone will recall but I had given him a car, a built 3800SC engine and trans, and well over $12,000 in cash to build a chop top. Unfortunately the engine wound up in someone else's car, the chassis and car ended up so hacked up it was determined to be nonreturnable to road condition (so it was destroyed), and he disappeared with the cash. Curious if anyone has heard or seen anything.

Where is it here where you can see who rated you?

I heard several stories from someone who knows him personally. First when he left town, he was in Florida doing sheetrock and other building trade work. Then he was back at his home in Jasper, Ga. Someone else said he had hooked up with the Lamborghini crowd at some point.

I picked up the Joel Project remains in Jasper and towed it to ThaDriver's in Commerce when you donated the remains to the Georgia Fiero Club. There are still a few of the pieces of the car (what few pieces there were) at ThaDriver's. It has provided a few parts to various people. Mostly all that was left was the frame, front hood, deck lid, roof, rear clip, hubs, 4:10 four speed, and the new engine had been replaced with an old one. Both rear tires blew out before getting it to ThaDriver's.

The last I heard, Dean was in Florida but have not had that status updated in several years.

Going back a few years there were many horror stories about this individual. He was apparently a dishonest person selling parts off of customer cars, using one owners engine on another job, taking payment and not doing work. It seemed that this guy would do anything to make money including stealing. Dean wasn't the first, that award would also have to be shared with Loyde who did 3800SC swaps and operated much the same way. He cheated a guy that I know out of $10,000. The bottom line here is that some people pay for a job full in advance rather than paying when they pick the car up? When you go for car repairs ethical garages never require you to pay in advance. When we were doing swaps, we took payment only when the job was complete up and running well. My message is never pay for auto work in advance.
As for the fate of those two guys, it is said "what you sow you shall reap". If it hasn't already, much bad luck is coming their way.

I dealt with him and actually received my part oddly enough.. was a low mount alternator bracket. The design/engineering was 'okay' but the fab work was, questionable. I ground the welds out and rewelded the entire thing.. not entirely sure he even knew what he was doing.

Agreed.

But there have also been instances where cars were held "hostage" when the owner was presented with a bill double the estimate, with NO prior discussion of any "extra work".
Of course, it's only then that a customer finds out they may not be as ethical as they had thought.

I guess that I was somewhat fortunate in my dealings with Dean. My last job with him was the installation of a 3800 SC in one of my vehicles. The work was done on time and at the agreed upon price. My only issue with this installation was that I had three fuel pump failures. Once when I was about 15 miles out from his shop and he picked up the car to fix it. I got about 35 miles on the second fuel pump prior to it failing in Atlanta rush hour traffic in the middle of I 20. I left the car at a gas station and he had it picked up for the replacement pump installation.

A few weeks later, he was scheduled to deliver this car and one other to my home. One was trailered and one driven. The fuel pump on the driven car failed for the third time and it was pushed on to the trailer while the other was driven to my house. The pump was supposed to be replaced once again, but he never showed up again. It cost me a bit of money to do this myself, but that was the worst damage that I suffered dealing with Dean.
