Oh no! Where did my antenna go? (Page 1/1)

Yep…people steal the darndest things. Anyone have an original antenna in good shape laying around?

Do you need the base, or just the shaft? If I recall, the shaft is easy to get.... I got mine at the parts store.

The base however is tough to come by.

Yeah the threads on the base are known to snap off. The base has no give and you have that long antenna whipping about. When i first got my Fiero I thought it was just missing until i tried to put in a replacement and found there were no threads.

If parked then gone, likely near by on the ground etc.
Or gone while park elsewhere or fell off while driving and you just notice.

run some ~ 22 - 20ga insulated wire under windshield trim and fender and don't bother finding antenna again.

First go under fender from glass end to connect to base.
Then push wire under windshield trim.

If base is good use a nut to hold the wire.
If base is broken, drill small hole to take self thread screw.
Use silicone or permatex brake grease to coat the connection for "anti rust."

If done right, no-one will notice unless some get close and picky about the empty antenna hole.

AM/FM radio antennas doesn't care much about length. AM and FM operate in 2 bands and OE antenna never match either range.
So If you run wire up right side trim only then is good enough for most people. I think I went up and maybe a foot more along the top.
Glass and roof panel holds wire off the metal enough so get good pickup in most markets.

I and many others have same or remove the base mount screw(s) and move OE antenna under the fender.
Many don't bother filling the old fender hole.

Love the ideas guys!!!! This is a silver GT with 50k miles and I’d like to keep it exactly original. It all looks intact so I believe it’s just the mast.

You could also buy a cheap non-detachable antenna and install it under the fender. A while ago John White a Fiero owner from Baltimore ran a wire and attached it to the steel frame around his moon roof and used that as the antenna. It reportedly worked better than the Fiero antenna.
