It's that time again! The 5th Annual Vine Run is on the calendar for April 23.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
It's that time again! The 5th Annual Vine Run is on the calendar for April 23. This years event will be more about the destination than the drive. This run will take us to the Roaring Camp Railroad in the Santa Cuz Mountains near Felton , CA. I suggest you plan your arrival time according to the scheduled departure time for any train option you may choose.
BOOKING TRAIN TICKETS IN ADVANCE IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND IS AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE.
https://www.roaringcamp.com/
Our group will enjoy free parking in a dedicated parking area. "Show off your classic automobiles or hot rods in a picturesque outdoor setting nestled in the Santa Cruz mountains. Roaring Camp offers an expansive lawn for displaying vehicles"
Roaring Camp Railroad operates two trains daily. One is a diesel engine that makes a round trip to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This is an historic, seven-mile train ride through the beautiful redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains. Your journey starts at the town of Roaring Camp, a recreated 1880's logging town where you'll find everything from gold-panning to a Town Marshal.
From here, you'll board the train and start winding down the hill towards the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, where you'll have up to five hours to enjoy the beach, wharf and boardwalk before the train departs back for Felton. At this time all the Boardwalk attractions are open.
Visit the site for pricing options. https://beachboardwalk.com/
Currently there is one run per day departing at 10:00 am and returning at 5pm. (There are two other Boardwalk runs with a one hour stay but the longer stay will allow those opting for this train to enjoy the boardwalk amusements and rides)
The other train is an authentic antique steam powered engine that travels over trestles, through towering redwood groves and up a winding narrow-gauge grade to the summit of Bear Mountain as conductors narrate the history of Roaring Camp, the railroad and the forest. (One hour roundtrip). Currently there are two runs per day. One at 10:00 am and one at noon.
There are several food options which are summarized here:

Meet up and caravan options may be arranged by those attending and can be organized in the comments section. Jenny and I will be driving down from the Sacramento area. Due to the distance and the train schedule this will be an early departure from the Sacramento area. We may caravan down with a few locals and meet up with a few cars along the way. Times and places to be determined. Our final meet up before heading to Roaring Camp will be at the Black Bear Diner in Milpitas.
174 W Calaveras Blvd, Milpitas, CA 95035
We will be arriving very early for breakfast and leaving the diner for the final leg to our destination no later than 8:30 am. If you plan to attend PLEASE sign up with me so that I can organize our group with the local camp liason.
Please make yourself familiar with the venues in terms of train times, prices, meals and COVID requirements (at this time masks are required for all train trips).
Naturally any and all costs associated with this gathering are yours.
More details will be posted here as planning develops.[This message has been edited by Rsvl-Rider (edited 03-14-2022).]

Okay--I'm going to get tickets for Jerry and I for the noon train through the park. Since we will be getting there a little later than you early birds, I presume they'll still let us park with the Fieros in their grass display area and that I don't need to purchase the $10 parking pass. It seems to be mandatory when you purchase tickets online, so I will try to call them this weekend so we can just get the steam train tickets. We didn't get to have a club meeting in March due to an emergency closure of the restaurant that day, but plan to meet next week, Apr. 16, so we will discuss each person's plans then. Look forward to seeing everybody!

No need to pay for parking. Just tell the parking attendant that you are with the Fiero Group and they will direct you where to park.

Okay--I just called and talked to the little guy on the phone today and he gave me a promo code for the parking. So when you're purchasing your tickets online and get down to the mandatory parking charge normally added to the cost, there's a link for a promo code. Just click on that to get the box and enter 'Parkpaid2022' and it will deduct the $10.00 from your reservation receipt! Hopefully we'll be in our Fiero this time and not have a problem with the parking attendant! JC
