The crisis engendered the rise of our Fieros. Maybe we'll get a new model out of this mess in the end.

For some reason, I was unfamiliar with that word. I learned something today. Thanks!

I had just started driving, good times: prices going through the roof, gas lines, gas rationing (you could only get gas on your assigned day of the week), shootings (of people cutting into gas lines.) Just now realized that at that time Joe Biden was already in the Senate 3 years! 'It's like deja vu all over again'

This topic should be in new political section.

"Remember the gas crisis of the late 70's?"
The "Crisis" Cause by Carter... Now Cause by Obama and Biden and rest of "Green" crowd that already has a war on gas oil coal and nuclear in the U.S. and now blaming Putin...

Do you believe 9000 leases and "Big Oil" won't drill?
Is 100% crap. Lease on property is Nothing when Biden and Green cronies won't give permits to build roads, pipe lines and more even to start to drill.
And Many Leases are for Nat Gas not Oil.

"Maybe we'll get a new model out of this mess in the end."
Anyone doesn't hind under a rock already see the answer because the "Green" crowd wants E-cars and worse that doesn't Save the Climate.

Live in a Condo? Rent? Own a Home w/ parking only on the Street? Then you Can't charge E-cars w/o going to charger places and Wait a Lot.
Some Condos may have a 1 to a Few chargers but isn't enough as more people need them. Expect Huge problems and likely to pay more in condo fees etc.
If you Rent a house w/ driveway, you often cannot add new changer needs 240vac.
Many building have problems w/ 120vac chargers pulling 10-13a continuously for hours. Example: I had to install a dedicated 120v 20a w/ only 1 duplex outlet to run Electric lawnmowers years age because everything else would trip a breaker if 1100w MW oven, refer, toaster, etc, turn on when mower is running too. 19-21" E-mowers draw 10-13a and repeatedly tripping a breaker is a giant pain in the ass and worse makes the breaker to wear out fast. Even still my wife forgets can't run toaster oven and coffee maker on same outlet at same time.
"Smart" chargers may reduce power when that happens or other problems w/ power source but expect Days to charge for that low power.

No it shouldnt. But this is what will happen over and over, people thinking everyting is political.
Everything can be in many ways. Thats kind of the problem with trying to separate things.

We'll most likely keep getting even more and varied different SUVs. Cars are SO last century.

I remember in NJ...odd / even license plate numbers- odd numbers one day; even the next. $5 minimum for a 4 & 6 cylinder car; $7 for a V8...nobody would believe there was a 6 cylinder engine in my 69 Bonneville; especially with the 428 emblems everywhere . Loved that gas guzzling car, it was a beast. Epitomized "Big Fast Car"..

I remember that "Oil crisis"....When gas prices sky-rocketed to over.......50 cents a gallon! (Aiyeeeeeeeeeee!)

I would suspect that part of the cause of the new crisis is that the oil industry sees the situation with Russia as a way for them to grab some more money by jacking prices. The industry is in deep crap because now everyone is switching to electric cars and cutting back....Big oil can see a "Light at the end of the tunnel" which is accompanied by a train horn.

They should have diversified 20 years ago.

I remember it well. Drove a 65 GTO all through it.

Years back the oil industry created a "shortage" to raise gasoline prices. Today with the help of the Biden administration they just raise them sky high. The Democrats are against fossil fuels but they are still needed. IMO, it will be a long time before the electric car can replace the gasoline engine. With the A/C /heater on you can't drive more than 250 highway miles without recharging so that is useless. I can also gas up in 5 minutes, while the electric car takes a few hours if not overnight to recharge. The war on fossil fuel must stop because 65% of the power generating stations use it.
The future is a new fuel called "Blue Ammonia" that generates hydrogen and burns with near zero emissions. Japan and Korea are have blue ammonia/hydrogen powered cars right now and you can refuel at a traditional filling station in a few minutes..
