I'm glad I managed to snag a Formula that was most likely going to end up in the junk yard back in 2000 for 600 bucks. I've brought it back to life and it has since been on a few coast to coast trips but I keep it mostly in storage now, but I've often wonder. How many of the more than 5 thousand made are left? Count me in ! 1988 factory yellow Formula Fiero 5 speed. Complete engine rebuild with Fiero Store's Hi-Performance kit. Ported exhaust manifolds and Ocelot exhaust system. Poly suspension bushings with all stainless steel bolts and fasioners. Fiero Store axle bearings to keep things smooth rolling Good Year grand touring tires. POR-15 coated and protected undercarriage. Functional air scoops both hood and side panels. Got one of the factory CD players with an AUX jack from somebody on here ( was it Fiero Tom ? ). Gotta have my tunes . This car will cruise effortlessly at 100 mph. Got the real Hammond aluminum louvers. Sometimes I have them on, sometimes not. New ignition system along with a whole list of new stuff... most all from Fiero Store ( I depend on them immensely with great satisfaction and service every time ) When one of those goofy imports with the toilet bowl exhaust mess with me... Im gone and their dumb struck.

I am sure no one knows the exact number, if that's the answer you're looking for. Formulas are desireable models, so like 88GTs the number remaining is higher than it is for most other varieties but probably not higher than about 25% remaining. For other model years and 4-cylinder models there are probably much less remaining (as a percentage).

There is no way to quantify the number of Formulas that remain. I'll go with the number of 25% -30% thinking that some people recognized their rarity and didn't junk them... ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. "THE COLUSSUS" 87GT - ALL OUT 3.4L Turbocharged engine, Garrett Hybrid Turbo, MSD ign., modified TH125H " ON THE LOOSE WITHOUT THE JUICE "

I've got a Formula... so we now know there's at least three of them.

No one knows.
But it is safe to say a good number of them are saved as 1988 Fiero’s tend to be easy to find yet. This is easily due to the fact when they said they were stopping production many of these cars were saved and preserved.
Also a high number of V6 cars survive too.
Keep in mind 85 to 87 the 2m6 cars were sold and pretty much were a Formula just not with a name on them.
In 85 a similar number of 2m6 Fiero’s were sold. They had the base body but they had a V6 and WS6 suspensions. They were the sleeper cars.
The general thing is the Fiero is a model that has had a higher than normal survival rate vs many others so they will never be impossible to find.

I think some newbs (and non-newbs) overestimate the collectible value of the Formula option model. From sales I've seen the 88 GT sells for about 1.5-2x a similar condition Formula.
Why would a lower optioned model be sought after? I suppose one could argue well some people don't like the fastback look. You could argue other similar things like "My base Fiero with no options is super rare. Or my pink Fiero is super rare". Rarity doesn't give value in and of itself. I only produce 1 turd a day. That's pretty rare, yet no one is offering me any $ for them.
Top end low mileage 88 GTs are going for $30K while I've not seen a Formula sell for over about $12K.

Formulas are popular because they are lighter and better looking than the GTs.
