I just wanted to say HI. I have been using the info on this site for almost 3 years. It is unbelievably great. I have 2 fieros. One is 84 base w/ stock engine with new dist. cap, and wires. Replaced the brake lines with stainless. Not fun. Let somebody else put on my KYB suspension kit and drilled shoes with ceramic pads. The other one I have is a 85 not stock. By that I mean somebody put either a 350 or 302? I know the engine foundry code ie 3970010 which according to many internet post could be anything from 1969 to whatever. I do know that a guy with a 70 chevelle looked at it and said the valve covers are from a vette. But with an Edelbrock aluminum intake and a double pumper carb from Summit Racing it is definitely Franken Fiero. When started up it sounded like my old 69 chevelle 396/375 horse w/ 2" Hooker headers. This thing is a rocket on wheels. When I pulled it of the trailer on to the street, I took off about 1/2 throttle and dumped the clutch. It felt like if it had slick on it it would have pulled a wheelie. Needs a LOT of work, put being an old retired dude, what the hell? Right? Enough for now. Will inform on the progress of Franken FIero.

I'm sure that your Fiero is fun to drive but with a SBC V8 I would be cautious about driving it too aggressively. The Getrag transmission was designed for 200 ft lbs of torque maximum. You can probably hit it occasionally and be OK but those boxes are old and have been known to blow up on many engine swaps. If you replace the clutch you'll probably need a HD unit like a Spec 3. Some owners replace the clutch with the engine is place by taking the transmission out the drivers side wheel well but the engine needs to be supported, the strut, axle and crossover pipe removed among other things.

I suspected you weren't a youngster when you mentioned your "old 69 chevelle 396/375 horse w/ 2" Hooker headers". I had a 4-spd '67 Chevelle SS396 back in the mid-70's. Loved those old BB Chevys.

When I was in high school my older brother had a 68 Chevelle SS 396 that I would borrow every chance I got. Lawd, that thing was fast.
