Don't recognize these folks but I appreciate the nice gesture by the kids dad. The only concern is that he purchased a 33 year old vehicle for him and that will probably require some TLC and may not provide the best reliability. I know a local guy that bought a formula for his son and its running well but he put a significant amount of resto work into it. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. Wow, T-Tops too! Some kids are born with a silver spoon in their mouth and some with a plastic one like me. This kid has a silver one in his mouth and a gold one in each hand!

My best friend in HS got a brand new '77 T/A black w/gold pinstripes for his 16th BD.....he was the talk of the town for 6 months- at which point he.....Totaled the car!
Someone needs to A) Tell the kid to be VERY careful driving this- and maybe teach the kid about handling- especially DTO....Also, B) Instruct him about proper jack-support while working under the car.
I tell all the kids I meet (15-17 years old) "The first six months that you are driving a car, leave the stereo OFF while driving- you are learning and should have no distractions". Most kids actually get this and then leave the stereo off while driving.
Addendum; Back in the late 70s the T/A in Black & Gold was THE CAR to have- most people would have rather had this than a Ferrari or Lambo.
My buddy was bragging about how he was going to get a Pantera (The local dentist owned a Pantera)....And then, just before he was going to start driving it the car was "Crushed by a forklift" (Obviously total BS)
So late summer, I was mowing the lawn and looked down the street to see a Black & Gold T/A...and then it stopped at my driveway! (Maybe the driver wants directions, I thought, excitedly) The window rolls down (power widows) and I lean down, seeing an older lady in the passenger seat....And then, I hear my buddy's voice state "How do you like my new car?" then continued down to my knees, pounding the sidewalk with my fists while moaning "No-No-No!"[This message has been edited by cvxjet (edited 06-28-2022).]

I bought my Fiero when I was 15. It wasn't my first or only car. The biggest trouble I always got into was the understeer. I can't count how many times Id end up full lock left or right and just plowing straight ahead. My other RWD cars at the time you would just throw the steering wheel and stomp the gas and neatly slide around a corner. My 16 yo self was adamant that the rear engine l4 Fiero could drift like the front engine v8 289 Falcon and v6 300zx.

That was cool though I would have told him get the Pizza off the car.
It looks like he got him a car that is mostly done and will save them time and money. Too often kids start with a rats nest and spend much more than a cars worth. I almost did that but got a very clean 63 ford for my first that needed no work and got it cheap.
The old and reliable deal is going to be with most cars for a kid. My kids car is 15 years old and needs some care now and then. Also he was never getting a new car. Nut he has a safe clean older car.
Now my Fiero was my Grad gift from Collage and I still have it. It was my first new car and will always remain in my collection.
I am glad for the kid. Just hope he cares for it and does not do something dumb like we were prone to at that age.
