So I buy this beautiful 87 GT through one of the Georgia Fiero guys. Thats a story in itself, but not why Im posting here.
Today was the first time I pulled off one of the tires. I was hearing a loud snap out of the front end, drivers side, and knew one of the ball joints needed grease. When i took of the tire , I was amazed at all the cool upgrades that were done to the car. First and most obvious, drilled brake rotors. Also, the Koni shocks. Stainless steel fasteners thru and thru. Now take notice of the sway bar. Being its so clean, is that a replacement thicker bar ? And my final question... the purple springs ? Can one of you Fiero know it alls tell me where there from ?
Now the other story.... on how I got this beauty. Im on my way to a Gerogia Fiero Club meeting with one of the members, in his car. I tell him that I want to sell my 87 4 cyl notchback auto for a GT. He then tells me that a woman is selling one, and she lives only 10 minutes away from me. I was totally surprised to hear this, as I thought I knew of all the Fieros in my area. So we went straight there after the meeting, only to see what I thought was one of the best looking Fieros, this side of the Mississippi. I knew within 2 minutes that car would soon be in my driveway. Why ? The tail lights, and sail panels, were absolutely perfect . And I mean perfect. I test drove the car, and it ran great. Next afternoon... that beautiful Gold 87 GT had its new home, in my driveway.

Beautiful find, and to add the car appears to have all the bushings replaced with poly. I think those purple springs may have been from Intrax. The springs probably lowered the car 1.7" in the rear and 1.8" in the front.[This message has been edited by IMSA GT (edited 08-21-2022).]

Someone obviously put a bit of time and money into the front end of this '87 GT. So I'm curious... did they follow through and do the job properly when they lowered it... did they remove a section of the metal cones to shorten the total length of the bump stops? So many people "cheat" and don't bother with this critical step... and then have to deal repeatedly with the front suspension bottoming out over bumps.[This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 08-21-2022).]

Nicely done! Was this the July meeting? I think that's the one I missed.
Edit - can't speak to anything else, but I'm guessing that's the Grand Am brake swap. Stock disks are much thinner than those.[This message has been edited by Raydar (edited 08-21-2022).]

Pat... dont know if the cone procedure was done, but I imagine so. The car does not at all bottom out. Shes glued to the road... and FAST ! I had about 8 Fiero's thru the years, and this baby really pulls strong ! So with all the suspension upgrades, Im wondering what was done to the engine. Is there a easy way I can see if its the V6 Camaro motor ? 3.1 or something like that ?
Radar... a few of the Georgia Fiero club guys went to take a look at this car. Boy am I glad none of them bought it. Wherever I go people flip over this car. Especially the Miata guys, untill I pass them at 90 with plenty to go ! hahaha

If you look at the sides of the block from underneath, a 3.4 will have an "F" cast into the side of the block.
An 88 2.8 will have a boss cast into the back side (trunk side) of the block for a crank sensor. It will be blank, but will be drilled for a mounting fastener. If it's a later engine that used a crank trigger, it will have a metal plug (or an unused sensor) in that boss, alongside the hole. Also, 3.4s used a cam sensor. Look at the top of the block, just under the intake manifold on the passenger side, if there's a plug (or an unused sensor) there, then there's a good chance it's a 3.4.
