Find my car (Page 1/2)
YTEE AUG 28, 06:58 PM
Hey everyone, does anyone have insight into how to find a car? I had a Fiero GT when I met my wife back in1987/88 and I thought it'd be kinda nice and fun to see if I could get her back (the car....my wife's crazy enough to be with for 30+years.๐Ÿ˜™)

I know license plate, but unfortunately not the VIN

Lexis nexis. You can run searches by plate number and states that will usually pull up current owner information. Unfortunately I believe itโ€™s only accessible to certain businesses like insurance companies, law enforcement etc.

Your State DMV might have records going back that far that are offline but that they could search for a fee ...

If by any chance the plate you had was for California, you can search their database for an emissions test history on the state web site using the plate #. That at least gives some footprints of it being around. But I have no idea about other states.

If there's any possible way you can dig up the VIN it would probably open more options. Any chance you might have any old papers buried away like registration docs, insurance, towing receipts, repair slips or emissions test results or anything at all related to the car?
A carfax report could at least tell you if the car still survives, but I think you'd have to use a VIN for that.

Pretty tough in WI unless you kept the info from the guy you sold it too and he still has the car. You can try other routes but its far easier to just search for a similar car that is for sale. What was it BTW?

It was a 1987 ('maybe' 1988), Maroon (?Medium Red Metallic?)/gray GT with cloth interior. Apologies for lack of hard facts, but I was 23 at the time and WAY more worried about school and women.

Bob

PS: I have had the same insurance company since I got my license, so I have them seeing what they can find. I never had a violation with the car or any body work done on it, so the I.C. may be my last hope

So it's been 34 years since you last saw this car? Do they use salt on the roads in Wisconsin? If so, the odds aren't in your favor.

You're not trying any more.... I don't see ANY maroon/medium red GTs in that pile!

We're looking for something more like this:

Or this....

Or this....

Or even this!

You're not looking hard enough. The body panels have been removed.
