Seekonk Speedway Sept 3 Spectator Drags (Page 1/2)

FYI this is my 4.9 6-speed. Someone other than Archie did this swap and I think he modified my shifter incorrectly because I've been missing 3rd often.
I suck as a driver!
The only time I run a fast lap is when I'm in a tight race with somebody.
My races are at 14:04 , 34:40 and 46:40

Round 1 is an exhibition round so for poops and giggles I tried launching in 2nd ... car started to launch then stalled...since it was rolling a bit I dumped it in first and it restarted without me turning the ignition.

Round 2 even though I felt I was pushing it - because I don't naturally run a good line, I did about a 20 second lap...

Round 3 - a rematch from round 1 - I have been missing 3rd all season and he passed me in turn 2 because of this. Still even missing a shift - because he's a really good driver - I followed his line pretty good and we pulled off about an 18 second lap which is pretty good on this track.

Watch the whole event including the first race where the Suburban flips. Also - what did you think of the Blazer getting ejected?

From my launch at 34:42, you see the car rock when I shift at 34:44, then again at 34:46. It takes me almost as long to find 3rd as it does to go from 1st to 2nd. :/
Launch at 47:07, shift to 2nd at 47:08-47:09...then you kinda just see my car in limbo thru most of turns 1 and 2... I kind of feel I might have gotten one of the 'newer' 6 speeds with revised gearing...the shifts just feel like they have to come much sooner than they should.
Some further analysis...since I'm shifting at 4500-4800 rpm, my shift come up much quicker than on my v6. With my v6 I'm shifting into 2nd going into turn 1 and into 3rd leaving turn 2. Due to the 4.9's limited rpm band, I'm attempting to shift into 3rd closer to the middle of turn 1. :-/ I want my v6 back!

My v6 is still awaiting assembly... :-/

Two possible issues...
1. Using a 4 speed shifter modified for the 6 speed. This places the gates much closer than they need to be and allows you to grab 5th instead of 3rd.
2. Using a getrag select cable as a shift cable. This was popular with the F40 DIY group (including me before I learned...), but I soon figured out that aggressive upshifts to 3rd gear would cause the cable to buckle and 3rd gear would be gone. Eventually this lead to the cable breaking. I redesigned my bracket to accept an Isuzu Shift cable as well as use the stock 5 speed shifter and have been jamming gears ever since w/o missed shifts or broken cables. This became the F40 Shifter Kit that I still sell. http://fieroguruperformance.com/

I was thinking of getting your 5-speed reverse lockout converter so I could use the getrag shifter. My other Archie kit, installed by Archie shifts fine. I believe when the guy that installed this kit for me, when he had to lengthen what allows the shifter to move further right/left that he also expanded the width, if you know what I mean.

(Action starts at 41:02 for anyone who hasn't seen it.)

The Blazer guy obviously felt everyone was in attendance there just to see him. Even after he was told to leave, he couldn't stop showboating. Dickwad.

Lou, what would your reaction have been if it was you who had been bulldozed out of the way by the Blazer? How do you feel about the ejection?

I thought he should be ejected. He had no room to work with and forced his way in there - I could have done the same thing in round 3 and spun out the Camaro, but I'm not about that life... He's been in many rubbing instances this season. This is supposed to be street-registered cars. His is one of the many trailer-queens that are purposely built. It's why I've never bothered to make my v6 car look prettier after all the hits I've taken over the years.

Guys like him will ruin these events for guys like you... if the organizers allow that type of premeditated boorish behavior to continue.

He's been coming to our track from Long Island. He was also at the Freedom Factory in FL for their first couple of Spectator Drags events. (Which adds to my point that this is the most competitive track around most of the country...)
He's a good dude but there some guys also locally that run the enduros and other semi-pro events that are now doing this event and their mentality is that it's ok to push someone out of the way.
When you drive a trailer-queen on the track, it's ok if it picks up a few dents. :/

I guess what'll happen then, is that eventually someone entering their daily-driver is going to get hurt... and then rules will need to be enforced to either completely prohibit "pushing", or make roll cages mandatory for all vehicles entered (if they aren't already).
