It's always so sad to see the small fire problem blown way out of proportion.....The NHTSA has records of 176 catching fire, while GM has 260 total on the books. When divided into the 106,000 1984 Fieros produced it is only 0.245 %...Into the total Fieros built it is only 0.07 %.
Those numbers mean that the Fiero has a BETTER than AVERAGE fire safety record......But the sensationalists will only state the "20 a month" crap...
I have actually had a number of complementary interactions recently- people who like the car and yet don't know a lot (Good and bad) about the car. I am sure with this video that will change...
"Stand back! Watch out! Those Fire-arrows all catch fire!!!!!"

Yes, it kind of ticked me off that even the thumbnail image the guy chose for his video (as seen above) showcases a superimposed "fire" over the rear decklid. It's pretty tiresome to see this same BS posted year after year.

Generally the same for me, but there's always at least one who mentions fire... and I'll correct them any time I hear it. The only reason the fire rep persists today is so video creators and wannabe-journalists can keep milking that sweet ad revenue.

The only thing more ridiculous than some of the 'facts" stated in these videos, are the asinine comments posted by various YouTube viewers... most of which are made by nimrods who've never even sat in a Fiero. I eventually felt compelled to respond to one dolt who had posted... "Don't miss having to use 50W-90 motor oil and replacing the upper dog-bone engine mount once a month".

That sounds like someone who actually has "Personal problems" when driving a car......I have never needed to replace the dogbone- and I drive my Fiero hard. (I actually did replace one side with poly- less play, better control yet still good isolation)
Back in the 80s, Car & Drivel was hyper-anti-american.....David E. Davis (Head editor) quit after he was chewed out by the publisher for doing a positive editorial on the Lincoln Mark 7 "Our Shtick is to be Anti-American...Never say anything good about US cars!" "But what if they start improving?" "NO!! One hundred percent bad is what we write!" So Davis quit and started Automobile magazine (I want to point out that Automobile was not "Pro-American" (Just not "anti")
Was the Fiero perfect? Heck no...But it was actually a lot better than most US cars back then...With the qualification that it was a Brand new and Innovative platform, so there was a lot that had to be learned...Even by the second year the car was very well set up...with few problems.
One of the biggest complaints against the Fiero was the handling....If they had sold as many MR2s as Fieros, how many would have died due to snap-oversteer? Knife-edge handling is absolutely wonderful- if you understand it and are already skilled at driving a well-balanced car. Most people would die in a 911.
The Fiero was (Rightfully) set-up for the AVERAGE driver.....
As far as the fire problem...It's wrong to have fire-issues with a cheap car- but it is A-OK to have fire-problems with a $300,000 Lambo (They are really notorious for fires)
