When a 1986 Pontiac Fiero gets more attention than a 2022 Porsche Carrera (Page 1/1) |

Car spotting is all the rage here in the lowlands. That means that everywhere you go, you see kids and adults alike with cameras alongside the road to take pictures of exotic cars that drive by. That means that every single day, somebody takes a picture of my Fiero. I can understand that. It's a pretty looking "sportscar" and truly "exotic". In the past 15 years, I've spotted only one other Fiero. And that was actually today, since there was an exotic car show here in Zandvoort and somebody took his Fiero to be displayed between all the Lamborghinis, Carreras and Ferraris.
At first my reaction was ๐. Really?
But then I remembered something that happened a few weeks ago. I was driving behind a 2022 Porsche Carrera and when we both slowed down at a traffic light, a bunch of kids came running up to take pictures of... my Fiero. Completely ignoring the Porsche Carrera in front of me. Imagine how the guy must have felt like. He drives a $200K car and a $2K car steals all the attention.
And that's why I like the Fiero so much. Because after more than 30 years, it still looks a whole lot better than most modern (sports) cars.

Back in 2016 I went to a Cars & Coffee event in the Sacramento area- approx' 100 cars; Some old muscle cars and sports cars, a few really old classics and some new Camaros (And 3 Fieros).....right at the end, a Ferrari 355 pulled in...followed by an Autozam AZ-1; It is a mid-engine sports car only sold in Japan....Gullwing doors, 0.65 L turbo engine, very small (Makes a Fiero look like a Full-size family car in comparison)
EVERYONE clustered around the AZ-1...Nobody paid any attention to the Ferrari- I bet that guy went home and cried!

Autozams are awesome and very hard to find. Less than 5K were made and all Japanese spec and are all imported in. Never seen one below $20k to buy.

Cool story. But most of us don't have these cars because we want or need attention. They are just fun to own and drive. I really don't care if anyone comments on my car or not- but I agree that having a well preserved 30-40 year old car is more impressive than a new Lambo, Ferrari, etc. Those cars don't show passion, commitment or hobby- just a deep wallet or good credit score

That's awesome Cliff! I remember like 8 years ago I was at a track day in Charlotte Motor Speedway. It was a huge event, there was a car show, drifting and road racing. When I pulled out of my garage to get on grid there were lots of people applauding and shouting when driving by them. I went out on track and did my laps and pulled into the pits to proceed into my garage. To my surprise there were lots of people running behind me to see where I was parked and they flooded my garage! And the majority were teenagers and young ones! They took pictures with the car, in the car with me and them, I even signed autographs!! And who's to say that a Fiero can't make you feel like a rockstar!

I was at a large event with near 100 exotic cars and every year I go it is amazing the number of people that stop to look at my car.
Many have a past connection like I owned on, wished I owned one etc. But many especially younger people are amazed as they seldom have seen a Fiero or one worth looking at.
What else attracts is the exhaust sound. Many are shocked when they hear the car thinking it has a V8. Then opening the deck lid they are shocked at how the factory engine is trimmed out. Compared to a 328 Ferrari it looks down right custom.
Owning my car since new I have experienced every step of the Fiero. When new I was a celebrity as everyone had to see it and I was cool. Next came the dark years where oh they catch fire and you are an idiot to own one.
Now it is back to where that is a cool car and I like yours.
The funniest compliment I ever got was I hate Fieroโs but I like yours.
Owning a Fiero is not just owning a car it is a full on experience.
I have owned a number of other cars and while special they were just another SS or Pontiac.[This message has been edited by hyperv6 (edited 10-16-2022).]

It blows me away also! My local Fiero group (FB) decided to crash a super car meet called "Super-cars by the sea" last year. People happily walked by a whole row of Lambos just to come check out our Fieros.

Hyper- Absolutely every word you said is exactly my experience- the only small thing that may be different is I never wanted the latest "Fad car" but did want an affordable mid-engine car....There were a lot of people who thought I had bought the Fiero because it was a big fad.
87-Special, the copper paint on the one Fiero looks really good- and the wheels look very similar to my VOXX Monzas...any better pics of the wheels?

Back in 2014, we went to an event. There was a 3D printed car on display - we parked our Fiero next to it for a minute to unload our materials, and a huge crowd ran over, totally ignoring the awesome 3d Printer car. The Fiero is definitely unique.
