Adding phone link to Radio (Page 1/2) |

I was wanting to add the ability to play MP3 music in my Fiero.
Most adapters suck and I found one with a 60 day free return so I gave it a try.
It is called a RediRad. It plugs into the radiator via the antenna. Then you have a power wire and ground. No cutting or modifications needed.
I have a later Pontiac CD. Radio that has the smaller antenna but the adapter I had made it all work. A factory 80’s radio should just plug in.
To play the music you just dial the radio to 91.1 and in about 3 seconds it is playing.
You do need to adjust the phone volume as if it is too low you lose the signal and too loud distorts. Right in the middle it sounds fine.
You do need to plug the phone in. My I phone has an adapter that permits this.
My next step is to get a Bluetooth adapter that the RediRad plugs into and then the phone should link wirelessly. The one I want is sold out but when back I will give it a try.
My system is the 90’s Pontiac radio with Rodney Dickman dash speakers, Sony headrest speakers and I had my factory Sub speaker restored with better foam so it should last much longer.
I tried the Rodney Sub but I think it needs more Amp. It is a high quality speaker and just too good for the Amp. The cheap GM speaker works better with the factory Amp.
So if you want to add a link you can get this From Ecklers for $89 plus shipping.
While this may not match my Bose in my truck it does sound as good as the 80’s Pontiac radios ever sounded and I have 20,000 songs with me on any trip.

If your radio has CD changer control, you can use a Peripheral (brand) PXHGM2, if you can find one. They're out of production for a while now. It allows the direct connection of an ipod. I've had it for years. I recently found a compatible bluetooth adapter that, in turn, plugs into the above device. It all is plugged into a 2001 GMC Sonoma radio. My Samsung phone works fine, connected to it. I can verify part numbers if you want me to.

Sirius radio came out with an adapter many years ago that plugs inline with the antenna. Like yours, you need to tune your radio to 90.1 and then it has a plug in jack for whatever you want to connect. They go for $25

If your looking for a project in the future, might I suggest a apple/android car play unit, probably the best $250 ive spent on my car so far. You loose a little of that 80s interior look but it modernizes the car a lot.

I did the adapter as I have no interest in changing the from anything somewhat Pontiac related.
It is show car and weekend play car.
Most of the mods are of the 80’s like the Indy scoop it Pontiac based snow car parts. This is why I went for the 90’s factory radio.
No need for GPS either. I know where I am going.
I leave the torch screens for my new vehicles for what they are worth.[This message has been edited by hyperv6 (edited 12-04-2022).]

What is the one you have? Noticed the GPS, is that connected to the antenna?

A touch screen headunit isnt exactly era-correct lol, so understandable. It was kind of painful to remove the stock radio from the car because I loved how it looked.
My car is kind of a daily driver, drive it 30 minutes to work each way 5 days a week so the added functionality was worth it for me.[This message has been edited by Xenoblast (edited 12-04-2022).]

I use a Yatour bluetooth adapter with my late 80's Alpine system. lol
Yatour makes several different kinds to fit several types of radios.
