GT1 Fiero lives again! (Page 1/1)

I realized I have not posted an update on the GT1 Fiero here in a while. It turned a wheel in testing in late November for the first time in over 25 years! It's VERY fast and darty - like a shifter kart on steroids. We didn't run too many laps as we found some small issues that couldn't be readily corrected at the track. The car is back in the shop and some fixes are done, some are in progress, but well on track for a test as soon as the Ohio weather breaks next year and looking at running some of the SCCA National TIme Trial events in the Unlimited 1 ("U1") class.

First test at Nelson Ledges road course, the car managed a 1:08.xx time against a lap record in GT1 of 1:02.xx. Older tires, wrong gearing (too short), limited slip not working, brake bias off and no adjustments from original set up. LOTS of potential to be unlocked. Add to this it's the fastest car I have driven - looking forward to spring. Limited slip is being rebuilt, new gearsets are on the way and looking forward to a warmer test day!

The car is light ready to race w/o fuel and driver.

This was built for SCCA GT1 racing by John Gunn (IMSA / Can Am) for a customer in Florida. 4.5L 90 degree GM motor with Brodix-Pontiac heads. About 450 hp in its current configuration. Engine is mounted longitudinally with a March 86C 5 speed transaxle. Bodywork is common to later GTU cars, but they ran the transcerse engine and (originally) the Muncie 4 speed with straight cut webster gearsets.
