Nice junkyard find (Page 1/1)

Found this nice spotless radio in my favorite junkyard for $30. The car also had a performance sound system as well.

Will be putting it in my 86GT. Currently I have a firebird radio installed. I need to create a new plug n play harness to work with this radio and the Bluetooth receiver I have installed.

Before you get too far into it, be sure all the buttons work. Those were famous for going full blast or full balance front to rear or left to right when the membrane failed. I had 5 or 6 that had one issue or another. Otherwise, they are good radios and use Blaupunkt tape decks.

Looks SO GOOD! Hope it's in good shape inside. We had a really clean looking one but everything inside was toast. Had "Joe" repair everything. I'll make a post regarding his services.

TOP NOTCH.

edit: you might want to switch out the belts just in case.

Will have to look into that. Swapping out any belt is not needed as I'll be using Spotify, I have no use for tapes.

There are (were?) a few guys on here that did restoration services for the different head units people put into Fieros.

This is all from memory, so anyone who knows I'm mixing things up, please check me.

One guy was replacing the lights with LEDs, as well as repairing any worn control issues.

Another guy was just doing the controls.

A third person was taking some of these models (maybe just the one with CD players?) and modifying them to put an aux-in jack in the front.

In short, if you're not up to doing all the pre-install testing or find things that need to be fixed and you're not wanting the hassle, there are potential resources.
