Am I too fat for a Fiero? (Page 1/3)
bmyers DEC 31, 02:27 PM
Hello. I found a nice '86 GT for sale and went for a test drive but felt really cramped. I'm 5'11", 270lbs. Am I too big for this thing? Will I get used to the size? How big are y'all?

Did this Fiero have a tilting steering column? Did you use it?

Were the seat adjustments working? You can slide the seat fore/aft, and the seat back tilts forwards/backwards.

Edit: did the seat appear factory, or did it appear like it came from another vehicle, or aftermarket?

Yes, it had tilt which helped. Had the seat all the way back. Issue was really w/headroom.

Headroom is generally not an issue in a Fiero. I'm 6'3", 200 lbs and there's headroom to spare.

Interesting. Is there a seat height adjuster I may have overlooked?

The only adjustments are forward/backward, and the angle.

However, as was mentioned earlier... it's possible the seats aren't actually factory Fiero seats, and therefore may sit higher than the originals.

If you feel cramped and the wheel is up and seat back you may not fit the car.

Are you squeezed by the door and console? If so it may not be a good fit.

Iā€™m 5ā€™11ā€ and 245 and getting a little heavier every year it seems. I fit my car just fine. It has authentic Fiero seats.

Tilting the seatback can add some headroom. I'm 6' 1" and under 200 but if I tilt the seat more upright, I have headroom issues, as well as entering and exiting.

Remember You went there...
Tall can matter a bit more w/ Fiero w/ Sunroof or not. But many 6' or bit taller often don't have much problems.
Weight can matter more Because many car makers design around ~ 190lb adult male "Crash test dummy."

So Sorry but may not "Get use to it," more so for long trips and seat(s) S-column and other things can have problems. Some Examples:

Having Tilt Wheel is good...
But...
This type Steering column in Fiero and millions of others vehicles has various weak points and hates people using the steering wheel other then turn the car. Anyone else abusing them will have problems.

If only the 270lb driver w/o any cargo... can see suspension "problems" steering the car because weight of car is uneven.
Why when I have been food shopping I put most heavy stuff in P-side seat and/or floor and not in trunk.

Seats and more wear out normally and 250+ lb just means faster. Not just Car seating but home and office seating often have same limits and often put on label under them.
