No Scratch Fender Cover (Page 1/1)

After a new paint job I needed to do some work on the AC and wanted to avoid scratching my fresh paint. I can't take credit for this I found this method on another board.

First clean the paint surface, I use Meguiars Warerless Wash & Wax with microfiber towels

Cover the fender with plastic cling wrap, Saran Wrap. It sticks to the paint really well and comes off without any paint damage.

Use a rubber backed bathroom rug, get the thickest you can find as it will be more comfortable to lean aginst. The rubber backing sticks to the cling wrap.

I have used this several times and no scratches.

I would just be careful as some plastics and some paints could react. Rare but it happens.

I just use microfiber.

That's a good point, I never leave it on for extended periods of time. I have been using cling wrap for 5 years and no paint damage so far.
I use it so nothing is sliding around on the paint leaving swirl marks, you see everything on black. The cling wrap doesn't move at all, pretty much the same for the bathroom rug.
