Springs (Page 1/1)

Hello all, I am starting to acquire the needed items to refresh the front end of my 1987 2.5 Fiero. One of my biggest concerns is that I feel that the springs have exhausted their life cycle. Small to midsize road imperfections can really be felt. Bottoming of the front suspension is somewhat common. I have replaced the front shocks, rear struts, and the steering stabilizer. Surprisingly the stabilizer was the most noticeable improvement. I have purchased front OEM style, not polyurethane, upper and lower control arm bushings.

As I understand, stock springs are no longer available. I also understand that the suspension of the Fiero was not model specific. The Chevette if I am correct was the actual donor for the front end. I have read many of the spring threads and have not found a definitive alternative part number / model that can be installed without modification. To be clear I am looking to replicate stock ride height / stock handling. Can anyone weigh in on what I could use? Additionally if someone has the actual dimensions / specifications of the springs for a 1987 2.5 Fiero, that would be helpful as I have not taken the springs out of my car yet.

Thanks
Sam

Findng new ones (OEM or aftermarket) might be tough. If you want to keep your car stock for show or purist reasons, best bet is to find a low mileage set on ebay (it looks like there are some on there now), or search local yards on someplace like https://car-part.com/ .

If you don't mind some minor mods, a few companies out there sell coil-over conversion kits that will let you leave the car at stock height, or you can piece together your own kit. On my last Fiero, I used linear rate springs instead of progressive rate springs (purchased from Summit), and ordered the adjustable sleeve kit from... Speedway, maybe? I was pretty happy with it.

It definitely is one of those parts that has limited platform interchange, so not a lot to drive aftermarket production of it right now.

I went through this on my 87 a few years back.

A variety of spring stiffnesses were used on the Fiero.
The spring codes will be on your RPO sticker by the spare tire on driver's side.
I was not successful at trying to create a database.

I needed to raise my front a bit because I had 1-inch lowering spindles AND the old springs were worn out.
The problem was fixed with NEW Chevette springs which were still available.
