Do they test your emissions in your state inspection? (Page 1/5)

Do they test your Fiero's exhaust during an inspection?

No... but then, I don't live in New York!

In France, all cars have to have a valid "contrĂ´le technique". Which includes an emission test.
However, older cars only have to pass the rules of their era. So quite easy for my '87 Fiero because it's with a load of carburetor equipped Renaults and Peugeots of the same period.
And they really polluted!

In New Jersey, no inspection for vehicles older than 1996, I guess that coincides with OBD II. All they seem do here for 96 and up is connect to the computer to make sure all the emissions systems are working and also make sure there is a catalytic converter in place.

here in michigan there are no inspections whatsoever. north carolina has both inspections and emissions testing, but anything older than 1996 does not require passing emissions testing, BUT the inspection checks for presence of emissions related equipment(EGR, cat, etc.)

Here in South Carolina they don't do any kind of car inspection.

No inspections in GA, for anything older than 25 years.
Newer than 25 years, it's just emissions, and that's just in the Atlanta area.
Your car can be shedding parts as it goes down the road, but if it's got "clean breath", it's good to go.

"For the 2023 registration period, gasoline-powered cars and light-duty trucks, model year vehicles 1999 - 2020, in the following counties receive an annual emissions test: Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding, and Rockdale."

There are so few people in my county (Heard County) that they likely won't have any sort of testing in my lifetime.

In North Carolina if your car is 20 years old you don't need a emissions inspection.

So.... what do you recommend a person do if you car makes that "bonkity-bonk" sound on acceleration due to pieces of the CAT bonkin' around inside of it?
Sawsall it and install the Cat kit from the Fiero Store, or just a straight pipe?

If your Fiero is being tested for emissions, the "straight pipe" ain't gonna cut it.
