In the military, those red tags usually say, "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT," and they would go on things like armaments and other things that were supposed to be like a safety-pin. At some point, this made it's way into racing... I guess (I don't really understand)... and I've seen a few "race cars" with something like that which you would remove before the big race... again, I don't know the point. So at THAT point... all the "street racers" started putting this tag on the tow hook screw that goes into the bumper. Like, on most modern cars, they don't really want you attaching a chain to a control arm or something because they're made of aluminum and can get damaged, so they have a screw in eye-bolt that goes into the bumper. They have a little panel that pops off, and you can screw in the eye-hook which is usually placed in the styrofoam wheel insert. But the "street racers" (for lack of a better term.. poseurs?) are putting the "remove before flight" or whatever it says, on there...
Here's a couple of examples... it literally makes no sense to me, so don't even ask me to explain, cause I can't...

A coworker at NAS Alameda told me of an incident while he was in the Navy; He and a fellow Navy enlisted were prepping an A-7 Corsair II for a cat-shot...The other guy was going to the other side to pull those pin/tags....Walked in front of intake....The pilot leaned over side of plane and asked "What happened- the engine died!" and my coworker had to tell him that a man had been sucked into the engine. I was lucky to only work on the flightdeck for approx' 4 months when I was in. Really amazing, exhilarating...But also a bit...frightening. One of the most dangerous places to work.

There's no mistaking that interior. This car has been "featured" here before. It's really... something.
