Friday Cruise Nights in Somerville, NJ (Page 1/2)
Dennis LaGrua JUN 15, 09:14 AM
Most NJ Fiero owners don't participate in it but every Friday evening from Memorial day to Labor day starting about 5 pm and going until 9 or 10 PM is a cruise night in the small town of Somerville NJ. The event has attracted up to 400 cars and both sides of main street are loaded with cars for over 1/2 mile. The event features music and there are large number of restaurants and a few cafes located there as well. Outside of my wife, myself and my favorite 87GT we seldom if ever see another Fiero there. Even at Carlisle the NJ Fiero owners are few. I often wonder why more NJ Fiero owners don't show their cars. The population of NJ is about 9 million. There surely must be a few Fiero owners here in Central NJ but we never see them. If any are reading this post and wish to attend (its free) you will find us there this Friday, weather permitting.

Weekdays are difficult for me. (actually MOST days are "difficult" for me...) Hah!

Work till 6 and get home around 8. Maybe if there's a weekend event sometime...

Somerville NJ isn't Central but South next to Atlantic City.

Most owners don't give a rat's ass for showing or cruising and won't drive to the next town let alone drive an hour or more to them then back again.

Many don't even go to shows/cruises in same town like one's at local air museum at only open ~ 11am to 3pm once a month or @ shopping centers that opens longer hours.

Not sure what map you ever looked at! But these two towns aren’t close to each other! This time your opinion is wrong! Only reason I don’t go to this cruise night is I work until 4pm and the show fills quickly. Orge stop talking out your rear. If you don’t know something don’t act like you know everything. Over the years your condescending comments keep getting more and more intense. If someone posts something about their fiero which you don’t like, you quickly insult and point out why and what they did as wrong.

NMC is correct. The town of Somerville is located in Central NJ in Somerset County. Adjoining towns are Raritan and Bridgewater. The cruise night certainly does fill up quickly. If you don't get a space on main street before about 5 PM the chances of getting one goes way down. There is usually plenty of parking in the public lots (free after 5 or 6 PM) but the lots are a block away from the action. The cruise night attracts thousands of people. Its a nice Friday night activity for the car enthusiast. We have been going there for years enjoying dinners at one of the many restaurants but usually we show the only Fiero.

Sure, that was probably true 30 years ago.

Sorry, mixed up name w/ Sumers Point next 2 AC. I haven't been there since was a kid.

The rest of statement is true even now...

Yup. They won't even drive across town.

Most Fiero owners are not "car people".
They're just people who happen to have bought a Fiero.

"Car enthusiasts" attend car shows with or without their car to LOOK at other cars!
I'd been to car shows and World of Wheels long before I had a car I could display there.

This is about our biggest turnout with 20 "active" members (they show up for annual Club BBQ)
while we have about 50 people on our club email list. The 2 on the right are mine.
There's about 100-150 cars here every Friday evening during the summer months.

Owners of car #4 (black '88 GT) and #5 (red '85 GT) have passed away since this photo.
Their absence is keenly felt at every car show...

I will agree that MOST Fiero owners in NJ and in the surrounding regional area don't show their car or even drive it for that matter. Lets take a look at Carlisle for supporting evidence. This year we have 116 Fieros registered. This regional show has drawn from PA, NJ , NY, DE, VA, MA, OH, MD, down the 95 Corridor to GA ,the Carolinas, a few from the midwest and even a guy from NM and one from CA.. There must be thousands of Fiero owners in those states yet Carlisle draws 116 this year. This supports the statement that most Fiero owners have no interest in cruise nights or shows. A few here in NJ that I know don't even take their car out of the garage. The good news is that the Fiero owners that I meet at the events are really enthusiastic about their hobby very personable and oops forgot, a special shout out to our Canadian friends that have attended Carlisle.
