Bay Area CA Fiero community (Page 1/2)

Hi. Long time lurker and I finally felt compelled to join. I’ve stumbled upon a nice 88gt I am considering purchasing and am doing the usual (for me anyway) diligence of looking at the various resources out there for owners for knowledge and parts.

The car I am considering had the engine rebuild recently so I am less concerned with that but did want to see if there were folks/shops in the Bay Area with knowledge just in case.

I see a few archived posts from folks 10 years ago recommending shops and even talking about get togethers but most of the shops no longer exist.

So I would appreciate hearing any recent experiences or referrals or just from owners in the area and how they are handling issues that pop up.

Thanks!
Jeff

Can I ask what city you're in? We're all over from Sacramento, Napa, Santa Rosa, San Jose, Gilroy, etc.

Of course.

South valley Gilroy area.

I’m in San Jose.
I’m not aware of any shops in the Bay Area that work on Fiero’s. Your either going to have to find a mechanic you can trust or DIY. 😀 The bonus of doing it yourself is you will eventually become “one with your car” grasshopper. 😀

And it'll be done properly!

I wouldn't trust a shop to change my oil, let alone do any mechanical work.

All valid points but it would be good to know if I had a reliable safety net in case it gets beyond my knowledge or means.

This forums your safety net lol! Im in palo alto, maybe 30 mins from you. I dunno how shops are in gilroy, but here the shops have high school kids who dont care about your car or their job. I cant even find a place to align my old truck or the fiero, even if I did trust them. No "old guys" anymore who knew everything. Took the big chevy to wheelworks for an alignment, they said everythings ok. Was paying and I looked at the alignment sheet, half the measurements were red. I lit the guy up bigtime and the manager jumped in. Cant trust many shops anymore, we got your back tho!

It's a shame that Fierobear moved because he was great with Fieros and lived in Hollister. Also Todd was an expert in these cars and he was originally in Morgan Hill but moved.

I live in the east bay- and I know enough about Fieros to be....Dangerous!

Also, I have a full set of hammers...so I can fix anything (I did not say I could fix them well)
