Man, there was a time when there was a store called "Toys R Us"... and they had "Fieros a'plenty" on the pegs...

Those were some GOOD times, I tell ya...

They had LIFE -SIZED T-Rexes! and Optimus Prime! and a zany live-action Spiderman! And a ferris wheel...

but the most important thing was... they had LOTS of Fieros!!!

(a few of you got these in your "secret Santa" boxes, BITD... I bought like 9 of those things...)

This is what I remember!!! Except it was in color... hahah...

And right behind that isle... was a HUGE row of Atari 2600 and 5200 games, along with Intellivision, Coleco, etc. Most of them, the games weren't there. You pulled the little sheets and paid for it, and then had to go to the little Video Game Tiki-Hut or shack at the front of the building. But the lower priced ones, as in, the games that were either on clearance or there was no risk of theft... (like Tutenkamen for the 2600), you could actually pick those up and put them in your cart.

I had many dreams as a kid of sneaking into Toys R' Us... repelling from the air ducts as a ninja, and then taking all the Atari games, and then escaping through a vent in the ceiling, hahah...

I would love... just for 30 minutes, to have a stroll through an old Toys R' Us from that time period... just to relive what it felt like as a kid.

The Giraffe from Toys 'R Us would call my kids on their birthday.

That place was pretty cool.

Before Toys R Us, there used to be stores around Atlanta (and elsewhere, I'm sure) called Lionel Leisure City, which was later changed to Lionel Play World, or something like that.
They were as big as a WalMart, but had nothing but recreational stuff - including model kits, model rockets, gas engine cars and planes, slot cars, bikes, and Hot Wheels (I'm sure, although I don't remember specifics) and just about everything else you could imagine.
One of these stores could easily make two or more Toys R Us.
