Wiper Stalk replacement advice? (Page 1/1)

I saw a How To on taking the factory wiper stalk apart and soldering the wires and gluing it all back together but I didn’t see anything on removing the stalk from the column and installing an aftermarket stalk. (in my case a new Standard Motor Product stalk).

I’ve had my column apart a few years ago but it was to tighten the infamous loose bolts with loctite so I do have a lockplate remover and the doo-hickey that pushes out the lock pins.
Advice before I operate? 😀

The trick is to disconnect the stalk wire at the bottom, tie a strong string, wire or fishing line to the wire and pull it up thru the column. Then attach the line to the new switch wire and gently pull it back thru. Be aware that it's not the easiest 'pull back' so go slow, don't let the string seperate!

Fishing line pull through. Check! (thanks for the tip) 😀
Anyone else?

I just did this a couple weeks ago. I think I saw the same repair video you mentioned but I couldn't seperate it to repair it without breaking it. Anyway, I decided to replace it with a cheapie replacement from Amazon just to have function back and it works great but is a little longer than stock. Just pull the old stalk out and like said before attach a wire or string to the connector end. Pull all the way out and use that line or wire as a fish line for new stalk wire and carfeully feed it through and down the steering column. Remove the cover under the steering wheel column first for visible access.

Remove column cover for visibility when feeding the stalk wire harness back through the column.
Check! 😀
On a different note, my wipers died tonight on the. way home. I got NO wipers. Thank God I got some Rain-X in the garage.

Routing the wires will be easier if you remove the turn signal part. Much easier access to run the wires.
