I have been going to talk about drive by wire for a couple of weeks since DA.Slyboy and Lou Dias were asking about what I did. Originally I went with DIS ignition and installed a crank wheel and trigger and a 1227730 ecu.I worked at tuning with Moates equipment and Tunerpro RT but I didn't see any noticeable improvement in performance. So after talking to the local tunershop I decided to get an Emtron ecu and what they call a flying harness. I also got an Emtron Lambda O2 controller.


the first job was to build a mount for the new ecu and I built it out of fiberglass to mount it in the correct position for the accelerometer function.




Next step was building The wiring harness with the flying harness I bought with the ecu. the flying harness is color code wire pinned to the ecu plugs but have no connectors. It was a lot of work to get the lengths and routing correct.

I got a new throttle position sensor (Pedal) from a Nissan 370 ZX and modified it with the mount and pivoting pedal from the Fiero.


This is routing and final fitting of the harness.I fabricated a mount for the 6 coil on plug coils and found the appropriate spot to mount them.


This is the new ecu mounted with new harness installed. .I was able to salvage the plastic bulkhead fitting and reused it. It gets filled with polyurethane to prevent chaffing of the wires



I required 2 resistors for the Lambda O2 sensors and it was cheaper to Buy 300 of them than two.

This was the first version of my cam sensor but it was to flexible and didn't give a steady pulse. The first 2 picks are of the modification I did to cure the flexing. I modified the old distributor cap to use as a cover for the cam wheel and pickup sensor.
