Ads in the middle of posts?! When did THAT start? (Page 1/1) |

I'm used to seeing ads in the PFF System Bot field, and in margins, and etc., but when did they start showing up right in the middle of single posts?
This was something that maryjane posted, earlier. A bit hard to read the text, due to the size, but you get the idea. Is this something new?

Remember now- we live in a capitalistic society....Really, we should be REQUIRED to read each ad and then pass a test before proceeding to the next paragraph...
(My favorite button in the whole world is the >>>MUTE<<< button on my TV remote- I mute all commercials- but almost would prefer to throw a rock through the TV screen when the Xfinity or Nissan commercials are on) (Arrrrgggggg- I hate that I just typed those two names!)

Google ads now "automatically" places ads where it wants to. The annoying thing is that it does *not* place ads in the spaces I have actually reserved for ads. I've tried to find out why, asked on the Google forums, but nobody really knows why.
Total disclosure: I can switch it off if I want. So Google can no longer determine itself where to place ads. But combined with the fact it doesn't place ads where I tell it to means ad revenue drops to almost zero. I mean like a dollar a day with any luck. And as much as I hate it myself that it places ads in the weirdest of places, without ad revenue PFF can't survive. Of course there are the donations. But the donations alone are not enough to cover the costs.
So as long as I haven't figured out why Google is not placing the ads where I tell it to, I'm stuck with letting it place ads itself. And that means that it sometimes places ads at the weirdest places, like in the middle of a post.
Come to think of it, instead of telling Google where it should place the ads, maybe there's a way telling google ads where *not* to place ads... 🤔

This issue started in the "Pop up ads" thread: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/100550.html
In the first thread I posted that a 'Refresh' for my browser will clear the issue, and yes - "it's still annoying as hell" as Cliff said.
However, please read Cliff's "Total Disclosure" above.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe everybody enjoys PFF as 'free' and we can disregard the issue.
Obviously, "there is no free lunch".......

Thanks Cliff. Looks like this has been a thing, for a while, and I just noticed it.

So it did. Missed that. I guess I oughta just shut up. Looks like I'm the only one starting "b!tch" threads about this stuff. And no, I don't use an ad blocker, here. I don't mind the ads, so much. Just odd when it "breaks up" a post I'm trying to read.[This message has been edited by Raydar (edited 01-27-2024).]

The time it is most annoying is when on a phone. Ads take up limited screen space.
