At what point does a kit car stop being "Fiero based"?? (Page 1/1)

1984 Pontiac Fiero Prova Designs Countach

Non-Fiero: chassis, drivetrain, interior, body. I've seen other kit cars that are of similar construction that also claim to be "Fiero based".

At what point does it stop being "Fiero based"?

When a tube chassis is created. That's when it stops. At that point, you're installing Fiero parts on a custom chassis. So yes, this is Countach is not based on the Fiero even though the original car WAS a Fiero.

Apparently, this is all it takes to make this vehicle "Fiero based".

I think there are 3 fundamental areas: Chassis, Suspension (includes brakes), and Interior

If any are largely retained, then the Fiero based comment would be factual. These areas are still largely Fiero and are the main factors that make a car ride and feel like a Fiero.

Even the Factory 5 cars with custom chassis have defined donors for suspension, brakes, and other mechanicals, so they would be based on XXX vehicle.

When you go to the parts store for a part and 50% of the wear parts your car needs come from a single make/model, then it would be difficult to say that make/model isn't what your car is base on.

When there is no Fiero.

The point of keeping it based on a production car helps getting licensed for the road in many states.

If winner tries to Export from U.S.... Customs can, often will, stop & confiscate as Counterfeit no mater how the documents are written. CBP have done this many times.

There may not be a winner as Ferrari often sues & now send DMCA for copyright & trademark violations etc. Just the Countach name & style & company logos has © &/or TM protection. That's why company sell the "Ferrari" kits got sued & shut down years ago. Ferrari is almost a bad @ suing everyone following Nintendo, Disney or Scientology.

Is true in many places not just U.S. States.
Even then may "trip" special inspection rules for big mod's in some places. Sim too special inspection for vehicle "Totaled" then fix but have Savage Title even in some states w/o normal inspections.
