Hello everyone! Just wanted to say hello. I just bought my first Fiero last week (86GT) and I am new to the forum. I've been on here before reading and trying to learn as much as I can, there is such a wealth of knowledge here, it's a little overwhelming. I think I have a thing for mid engine cars I've owned a 65 Corvair and currently own a 2000 MR2. I've wanted a Fiero for as long as can remember and finally found one that I thought was a good deal and condition. Anyway, my 86 has been up and down the east coast (FLA-MD) and according to CARFAX, it was originally white, it's a dark grey now. It has a sun roof, tilt steering, cruise control, power windows, 4speed manual with 175k miles on her. She drove just fine on the hour trip to my house from the previous owner's. The only issue I had was the driver's side headlight (which worked at the owner's house) didn't come up on the drive home through the rain. I plan to become youtube certified real quick and saw a video about cleaning out and dis assembling the headlight motor. Looking forward to learning from you all and providing whatever input I can.

Welcome aboard!
Rebuilding the headlight motors is one of those things many Fiero Owners have done at least once... (I suggest you do both of them, unless you know the other one is "newer" (or has been rebuilt).
Usually its the little rubber (delrin?) bushings that break down over time that you need to clean out and replace. But I also see the Fiero store has a different option: https://www.fierostore.com/...px?s=88250&d=273&p=1
Might be something else, but that is the typical headlight repair. Just watch your hands/fingers.
Check the wires, though - maybe one is missin' some rubber and got wet. or a connector is wonky.[This message has been edited by TheDigitalAlchemist (edited 07-17-2024).]

I just replace the headlight motor. Less than 50 bucks a piece on amazon.

...which is great if your Fiero has the 2nd generation headlight motors (as well as the rest of the 2nd gen harness, module, etc).
From the factory, '86 and earlier Fieros have the 1st generation motors.

This is very true. Thanks for clarifying that Pat.

Welcome aboard. You have a nice collection of middies.
Re. the left headlight...you can rebuild it, find a replacement from an '84-86, or replace the whole system with a GEN 2 harness, motors, and controller from an '87-'88 car. My suggestion is to replace the system. I replaced the system on all three of my '86 Fieros (2 GT's, 1 SE) and haven't regretted it at all. Takes about 3-4 hours if it's your first time and about half that if you've done it before. Instructions are to be found in FAQs and How To section of the forum.
The good thing about the GEN 2 set up is motors are still to be had. You can buy cheapies on ebay or get them from Summit Racing, Rock Auto, or the Fiero Store. Yoou also might find them at the local auto parts store since they are the same as the 89-92 Firebird. The solid state modules are getting hard to source but the module from a C4 corvette works. They are getting rare and pricey, too so I have a spare for the future.[This message has been edited by Mike in Sydney (edited 07-17-2024).]

Welcome to the madness of being a Fiero owner. Don't worry, you will soon have a parts car for your Fiero as well before long.
